Well its time for another 100 Day Challenge! Last year we conquered the burpee, now we will conquer the push up and sit up.
- Day 1- One push up. One sit up. Day 2- Two push ups. Two sit ups. And so on until day 100.
- You can ” buy in.” For example, if you were to start on day 5 you would “buy in” with 15 push ups and 15 sit ups.
- If you miss a day or two you can make up those days (but not a good idea.) No “Banking”
- Have FUN!
OK now for the twist…
The idea to this is to get better at these two movements. If you want to change up the movements and give it some variety you could do Diamond Push-ups and Knees to Elbows one week instead of the standard Push-ups and Sit-ups or what ever exercises would be push-up or sit-up equivalents. Be creative but don’t lose sight on why you are doing it.
The Competition:
Group Competition- Sign up as many people as you can (not already training with Bodyfit) to complete
this challenge- its FREE so there’s no excuses! The person with the most team members wins a prize. You must have those people keep a weekly journal (written or video, or both)
Individual Competition:
Submit a photo or video of you doing your Push Ups & Sit Ups in a unusual place or anything that you feel is just plain different. Be creative (and safe, Steve B!)
Lastly, keep each other updated here on the website. If you need support or just want to brag, leave your comments here!

I am in!!! And for everyone I emailed… thanks for considering. Hope to see you post your progress here!!! Me.. Day 2 – no sweat!
We are tackling this challenge as a family! The kids are in (at least right now) and we hope to keep each other motivated and challenged. Here we go again!!!
Feeling Good!……3 push ups and 3 sit ups easy!….Hey wheres the kids comments ?….Taylor, Shane, you guys need to pipe in…..
Update… I am the personal coach for new challengers… My Mom, Kris, Julie, Ryan, and Chuck. Will keep you posted if others want to jump in… you know you do!!!
Today, three sit ups…..easy……but the three push ups…not so easy….I AM SORE FROM SAT.!!!!!!
Two more joined. My beautiful wife Jen and PaulB! If you’re reading this and haven’t joined yet… what’s keeping you back? The sooner you start the easier it will be!!!
I’m in too…..it’s all Steve’s fault
Good job, Steve for getting so many people in on the challenge! Looks like someone is vying for another big win this time around! =)
So day 3 is done, neither of these movements are easy for me so I am very thankful for this challenge. I am pushing myself to do full (or close to full) sit-ups and regular push-ups not the normal crunches and knee push-ups I do now.
Good Job everyone!…..Steve B…..Get your newbies to post so we can get them on this page! Spread the LOVE!
SusanL has committed from Tucson, AZ!!! I know there’s more from Tucson that have yet to reply… hint, hint…
OK, I’m in! I didn’t start until today (Monday) so did 6 to get caught up. Thanks for the inspiration!
Totally in this!! i wake up, roll out of bed and complete my daily need right away! i’m trying to start a WA team, i think i have at least one on my side! I’m planning my next trip to come down for the Relay for Life! :^)
Whats up Laurel……Glad to see your on board!…….Keep us posted……spread the sit up/ push up love!
Of course I’m in (with the fam, as Lynay noted above). So we get Laurel! Dave and Nocole are in, I think. I still need to do mine today. My neck is really jacked up from Saturday’s pull up pushup and wife carrying fiasco!
I’m in this thing… And I’m all caught up. Let me say this again for the record..” It is a privilege and an honor to be associated with such a fine group of people.”
Steve, how do I change my avatar?
Tim,
Your choice.
I don’t have complete instructions… it’s been awhile and it wasn’t simple. You have to create a free account at http://wordpress.org and then you also need to create an avatar at http://en.gravatar.com/ which will tie in with the WordPress account if you allow it. You can upload your photo to the gravatar website. I can do the whole thing for you… but I’m not sure you could trust me with your photo upload…
Tim- I posted a how-to on how to add an icon/avatar a while back. Steve’s right it’s not very simple but I tried to make the directions as clear as possible. Let me know if you need any help. You can find it here:

Update- got up this morning and did my 4′s. I thought I was going to be sore from last night’s presses but I feel great!
hey y’all, day four come and gone! I”m so proud of everyone for joining Bodyfit’s 2nd challenge. Hopefully this will be one for the books. I think this challenge is totally doable and with everyones support we can all reach our group and individual goals, good luck everybody!
Im in and have been doing them since day 1. My only concern is the push-ups BUT its totally do-able….yikes! Heather (my daughter) will be doing the challenge also…perhaps my son will join. He does them everyday in the Army!! Good luck everyone!
Day 4….done!!!!!! Still pretty easy…..I can’t wait to see how I am going to manage from…let’s say….: day 20…….. :-0
Good job everybody!!!!!!!!
Day 4 and I’m behind already! Maybe my neck will be better tomorrow so I can catch up? Right now it’s doggin me pretty bad!
Hi guys! Ok, I’m up for another Bodyfit Challenge! (Steve B. I can take a hint, lol. Kevin encouraged me too.) I’m coming in with the same weakness that kicked me out of the burpee challenge, so I may have to scale to pushups on the knees on occasion, but I’m ready for this beast. I trashed that shoulder a couple weeks ago with 105 pushups with my feet on the kitchen table before I had properly strengthened it.
Anyway, it’s so good to see you all doing well and still working hard, and congrats to all of you on your recent running achievements.
10 situps and pushups done.
Great to see Eric jumping back in… I anticipate great things Eric. This one will be different; much easier!
So I’m working through my neck pain. I’m all caught up now through today on my situps/pushups!
Eric great to see you back in the game! I think this challenge will be a bit easier than the burpee challenge! Just my opnion!
Attention Windows Vista users. If you use the Sidebar, you can download and install the “Countup” application. Set the Start Date to 02/06/2009 and the start time to 5:00:00 and it will display the number 5 for today – 6 for tomorrow and so on. Should make it easy to know which day you’re on.

Thanks for the welcome back guys. As for easiness, my big problem has always been consistency. So for me, considering that, a “5 pound bicep curl in front of a mirror” challenge would be hard, lol. Consistency and intelligent scaling is the goal again here for me for sure.
Did 3 sets of 10 pushups plus scapular pushups as part of the shoulder program I’m on today, and matched that with situps. I’m going to try to get my sister into this before the buy in becomes too intimidating.
Good Job everyone……..So some of you think this will be easier?………I’m thinking this will be harder……..Remember….at some point you will be changing this up….knees to elbows instead of sit ups….clapping push ups instead of push ups……or going slow 4-2-1 on the push ups……will see…………..Keep up the good work!
Day 5…..done!!!! I will try to keep you posted while in Italy, be back March 1.
If you all think this is easier, try to set a “hard” goal, such as do 100 push ups in a row….or 100 sit ups in a row……..I think if you start looking at it that way it won’t be that easy anymore!!!!!
I will miss you guys!!! Keep up the hard work!!!!!!!
Please forgive me for sounding stupid. I’m quite new at this and not sure if I am in the right place. My name is Amanda Frey (Eric Frey’s sister). He has been working patiently with me on getting fit. He introduced me to this challenge this evening and I want to do it. I’m a bit out of shape, so I scaled down on the pushups doing them on my knees and did the 15 situps to buy in on day 5 of the challenge. I think, actually I know, this is going to be good for me. I have been suffering with plantar fasciitis for almost 7 months and have had to limit the type of workouts I’ve been doing. I’m excited about accomplishing this challenge. As always I want to thank my brother for all his hard work with me.
Welcome Amanda!….. Awesome!….Your in!….. Good job on scaling….If push ups are a struggle focus on those the most……Make sure you are trying to get full ROM (range of motion) even if that means once you’ve gone all the way down on your push up and are unable to push back up to plank….that’s OK…..In other words don’t always do 1/4 or 1/2 push ups….Make sense ? …. Come here when you need help or encouragement…. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!
Five and five, done for today I would rather not get behind on this one. Everyone seems up on this challenge. Good job everybody and welcome to the new people.Welcome back Eric. Thanks for the avatar info Steve and Karen… when I have a coulple hours and one of my kids to help I’m going to get a picture up. My guess for this challenge is:a little easier.
You can make this easy or Challenging……..Those of you that say its easier start thinking about what your weaknesses are on these movements…… I can think of several if you’d like a list…….. For some this will be a mountain for others its a opportunity to become better..or both …I’m working on my deep core……Id like to be able to hold a “flag” position off a pole……..To do this, for me will be tough…….allot of work to do……Don’t forget everyone video and /or journal your progress…..And have your people that don’t train with us do the same
OK, I see now why it’s not a good idea to miss a day. Yesterday I had to do 4 + 5. I’m sore!
On another note, for the last year I’ve been having a lot of shoulder pain (I get it from my dad, he has terrible shoulder problems). I’m realizing the push ups are really bothering my shoulders.
I’m wondering if I should do something different than push ups?
Oh, also, I got my 12 year old daughter, Laura do do this with me! She got caught up yesterday.
Susan
Alright! My sister’s down!
Susan, I’ve got some shoulder problems too so I’m anticipating having to do many on my knees once we get into high reps. You may consider doing them that way also, or with your hands on a bench, or higher if need be. I found out the hard way with the last challenge that getting hurt, missing days, and trying to make them up, and getting hurt in the process is a cycle to avoid like the plague. Stay safe, maybe someone else has some other recommendations for scaling or subbing.
I’m back on the shoulder routine found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0ONHZmsFec and there are some pushups in it. Maybe something like that would work for or help you. I did notice improvement in my own shoulders when doing that program before, and making sure to take my glucosamine / condroitin / msm. But depending on the source of your shoulder issues, what works for me may not work for you.
Good on ya for getting the kid into it.
Good evening all! Thank you for the warm welcome! Just got home from work and busted out my 6 and 6!
I’m in, of course. Always in for a challenge. I got some catching up to do from being sick last week. Let you know when I do.
Susan… I had a shoulder issue a few months back and had to still try pushups. I was able to turn my hands into fists and rotate them with the thumb pointing upwards. Then I did my pushups on my fists/knuckles. The rotation allowed me to do pushups pain free – although the knuckles weren’t so happy. Not sure if it will work for you.. but it’s worth a try.
woke up, did my 7 each before work. After a discussion with my brother last night I have decided to add a personal challenge into the mix by matching the push ups and sit ups with supermans. Let’s see how this goes.
Okay, so I am officially in, right? Even though I started with everyone else last Saturday. I’m happy to be part of this challenge and look forward to the improvements in my sit ups and push ups.
Day 8: we are on the beach, cold, but beautiful!!!! We did our push ups and our sit ups…..Miss you all!!!!!
Steve, that technique sounds a lot like how Pavel recommends to do pushups in “The Naked Warrior”. You are right, that does help, but I always forget to do it.
Susan, are you the aforementioned Susan from Tucson? You, Amanda, and I should get together for some pushup / situp fun some time. I usually work out at Children’s Memorial Park, but could change it up a bit. Riverfront park is nice as well. What part of town are you in?
8,8, and my personal 8 DONE! It’s actually getting easier everyday.
9 done
Well, I just did my 10. I’m already starting to see the difference in the quality of my push ups. I’m sure I will be feeling it tomorrow. I haven’t really been feeling the burn from it yet, but I’m sure I will. I hope everyone is doing well with the challenge. I myself have been doing plenty of mental prep for when the reps increase.
My sister Karen is IN!!! She has a shoulder issue (like many) but is on board. As for an update… so far so good. Haven’t modified anything yet after being sick, but may be ready for upping the ante… I’ll know soon.
100 day challenge, guess I should post that I am in, from day 2 (yes, I paid in for day one…) Doing my push ups and sit ups daily, and ready to do my first “Cindy” tomorrow. Wish I were on the beach… Good pushing up and sitting up to all.
jenjen
I’m in, too! I bought in on Day 3, and am looking at the floor contemplating Day 11 and thinking… jeeez… what did I let Steve talk me into??? But sit up and push up I will. I’m a traveling sales rep based in Philly but on the road a lot, so today’s challenge comes to you from (a hotel in) the beautiful mountains of Boone, NC.
Good Job everyone!!!!!!……..Day 11…. I went to KTE’s (knees to elbows) instead of sit ups this week……. Welcome Kris! keep us posted on your adventures…….Thanks everyone
Ciao
peace out. keep pushing….and pulling
ps….i will be on the beach tomorrow.
Thanks for inviting me Steve B! I am in! Also thanks for clarifying my misunderstanding- I would not have lasted past day 20! ( I thought the buy-in rate was the standard rate e.g. day 1 plus day 2 plus day 3….. Day 20 would have been ~120 and day 100 would have been over 5000!). As it stands today (day 11), its a piece of cake, but I know its going to get harder, so cheer me on!
Alright, more people are in! I’m good so far. Haven’t had to scale yet and am cautiously considering switching to doing a few hand clap pushups to see how the shoulder holds up. Just a few… (my famous last words, lol.) Thinking I’m gonna have to up the ante on sit ups, though. Maybe hanging upside down from the monkey bars, I like those. Maybe hanging knee lifts. KTE kills the shoulder for some reason. Maybe I do them wrong.
11 done. I love my big brother. Last night he said he wanted me to do just one of my push ups on my toes rather than knees. Well, kudos to me. I did the one and it was not very much fun. But, I DID IT. The rest were on my knees. All 11 done (as well as my personal goal- supermans). Tomorrow I will again have my first push up be on my toes. Let’s see how long this will last. I guess I can only get stronger, huh? Maybe in a week or so my first 2 will be full push ups. Wish me luck guys. It’s nice to see I’m not the only scaling or planning to scale. It makes me feel more confident that I will complete this challenge. Have a great night all, and push up/sit up on!!!!
Day 11 and so far so good! Thanks to Steve for being a pill about this. I suspect by the time Spring Break rolls around, I’ll actually be grateful!
Son, Steve, motivated me to give it a go! I’m in. Did my “11″ today with a little difficulty, but will hang in there. Thanks Steve!
Oops – I was off a day – so will do my extra to keep up!
Hi everybody!!!!! Day 12, done, but the push ups are becoming harder for me!!!!
Pat, I am so happy you are in too!!!!!!!
All my love to my Bodyfit Family!!! MISS YOU GUYS!!!!!
12 hanging knee lifts, 12 hand clap push ups.
Amanda – you’re inspiring me. The sit ups I can handle but the push ups are my nemesis. Maybe I’ll try the First on the Toes trick and see if it helps get me farther faster. Happy sitting and pushing out there! kk
Good Job everyone!……Day 13!……Who out there is keeping a journal?…..it doesn’t have to be allot just a quick note of how your feeling and any improvements or struggles………..And those of you who where brought in by someone training with Bodyfit you need to send in some pictures and/or video of you doing your push ups / sit ups…..Don’t be shy….You are apart of our community now so SEND THEM IN!
Day 13. 70 and 70 (days 7 through 13) all caught up. Included both in my at home workout as I worked too late to get to Kevin’s. Elena we miss you and paul too! I’m going for the most consistant award for this one.Good job people!!!
“Most Consistent” is all mine!
Hey there! Our schedules have been really out of whack this week but both Ramses and I have kept up with all our daily push-ups and sit-ups. I feel myself getting stronger already, yay! Hope everyone is well, we’ve missed you this week! Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week!
Most Consistent should really be the “scouts honor” award. I’m shooting for the most dangerous again.
I’m going to for “Least Injured” this time around. And Steve, if I can find a way to get “Most Dangerous” and “Least Injured” to not be mutually exclusive, then it’s on my friend!
So far I haven’t had to scale, and the hand claps I did the other day didn’t have any adverse effect on the shoulder. So, I think this week I’ll do my pushups with every other rep being a hand clap.
Day 15. I am sore. Mostly in my stomach muscles, not my arms or chest. I figure at some point the soreness will go away and I’ll have abs of steel. How long does that take?
I have learned that it’s really best getting these out of the way in the morning. One night I was just getting in bed and realized I hadn’t done them. So I jumped out and did it. But I would have been so much happier if I had gotten them out of the way early.
I just read through all the comments since last time I logged on. So a few more things:
Amanda – I have also long suffered from plantar fasciitis and it has really limited my aerobic workouts. If you want to compare notes on rehab options, feel free to email me: smleader@gmail.com
Eric, Yes I’m Susan from Tucson. Didn’t realize you were here too. Yes, it would be fun to get together at one of the parks. I’m near Ina/Oracle so either park is great. Love Children’s Memorial.
Steve / Eric, thanks for the suggestions for my shoulders. I watched the You Tube routine. Really comprehensive. I may try some of those – though my shoulders have actually been feeling better.
Scaling: I assume that means going from a full sit-up or push up to a partial? I have been doing pushups on my knees the whole time but on day 11 tried and managed one full push up. It was really really hard. I will continue to try and adding one little by little. I may start to scale the sit-ups to elbow to knee.
Journal: LASTLY, I started a journal which I think will be really good for me to see my progress. Oh also, my 12 year old already lost interest/steam. I’ll try to get her to do them with me whenever possible though.
Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. I really feel like part of a community!
Dion….. You back from vacation yet? How you doing?
Susan, you’re right in my neck of the woods. I’m at River and La Canada, and Amanda is down near Roger Road. My email is eric [at] ericfrey [dot]net We should all plan a workout for next weekend. We could all get the kids together at the park and have fun. Maybe Saturday afternoon, so my wife can join in.
As for scaling, I believe Kevin’s mentioned it already, but going full range of motion, even in an easier position (like on your knees, or hands on a high surface, like a bench or table) is preferable to doing partial range of motion reps.
Kids are hard to motivate sometimes. Sometimes my kids find it fun to do high 5 pushups with me, but even that gets old to them. Face your child, each of you in a pushup position, and at the top of the pushup, quickly high 5 each other with your right hand. Go down, come up and repeat with your left. My kids love to be a part of my workout, but rarely love to work out with me. (they particularly like me doing squats with them on my back, but won’t do squats themselves… ugh.)
Did my 15 this morning as alternating hand clap pushups and regular pushups, and did my situps hanging from the monkey bars before getting smoked by my version of Joshie today.
Scaling? Well I may have misunderstood its meaning. Maybe Kevin will clarify. I took it to mean modifying or making the challenge easier/harder based on your comfort level. Also, for those people with injuries and can’t for example do pushups, they may subsitute air squats or something else – as long as you’re doing something it’s better than nothing.
I am starting today (finally) to modify my approach to do 50 pushups everyday until day 50, and then possibly 100 pushups per day until day 100. I also will do Knees To Elbows instead of situps – but due to time I may just keep those at the day count (I reserve the right to modify this as it progresses). My main goal is of course to definitely do the minimum each day, but ultimately do much more as my body will permit. I don’t want to get locked into craziness like the previous burpee challenge.
As for Eric and Susan – If you do ever connect – we expect some photo ops sent to Kevin for posting – possibly as part of the photo challenge. Be creative (I know Susan is!!!).
Paul here
Both Elena and I are on track…..I can’t wait to see you all again…..forward we go.
Steve, you bet there will be pics. I’ll bring the video camera as well.
Day 16. Had to do 45 of each today. Not too bad. Tried to do knees to elbows on my shower curtain rod….. should have had the video rolling; Probably should have waited till she was done taking her shower..( could have had a “most dangerous” entry ). Keep it up all!
17′S DONE! Thank you Susan. We may have to do that real soon, considering not much is helping right now. Keep on going up, up, and away everyone.
Day 18: I realize I am getting better with my push ups, I am very happy about it!!!!! Since we are at a point in which I can’t do them all at once, what I am trying to do is to divide them in two, always half or one more than half , but if I realize that I feel good and can make one more I push myself and do one or even two more (Paul helped me with coming up with this solution). Sit ups are still pretty easy, so maybe once I am home I’ll find a harder way to do them.
All my love to my BODYFIT Family, see you next week!!!!!!!!!
Is everyone storing there videos?…hoping to come in at the last minute with the winner…..? You should all be ashamed! I am waiting for the camera to return home from Italy…
P.S. EVERYBODY NEEDS FAST PANTS!
Is there an award for getting to day 18? (Maybe I can eat the girl scout cookies that just came in?)- Are we really going to make it to 100??? Steve, this reminds me a bit of 100X100′s in high school, and do you know, I never made that set? Not once, all those years. Feeling like my mental game still needs some work. And, I have the opposite problem with the kids…mine cheer me on until I’ve done my day’s total. They’re really cute until they start yelling!
Karen… You can do this. Break it up slightly if you have to. Noone says you have to do all 100 in a row when the time comes. For day 19, try doing 5 pushups then switch to 5 situps, then 5 more pushups, etc. until you get to your daily number. Or do as many pushups in a row that you can before switching to situps. This will give you the needed rest to push through and still make your daily number. Get those negative thoughts out of your head – and don’t compare to swimming years ago – that workout took about 2 1/2 hours to complete. 100 pushups and 100 situps won’t take you very long when you get there.
Day 18 in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. A really beautiful view out my hotel window sure helped with those push-ups. I’m with several of the other women (although not my always super strong sister Jennifer) in that the push ups are starting to get tough. But I’m still amazed that I’m getting 18 done. Two weeks ago, that would not have been possible. Full range of motion on each push up – making it all the way down and back up – is my next goal. Carry on the good fight!
Wow, pushups are hard these last 2 days!! My arms & shoulders are sore! Oh well, breaking them up into small groups still gets them done!
20 reps is still not a problem, endurance wise, but I scaled my pushups to the knees today. I haven’t done anything to hurt my shoulder, but I feel a little ache in it so I figure better safe than sorry.
Went downtown today to do some paperwork and saw some awesome places to do pushups and situps. I may go back tomorrow with the camera.
Keep up the good work everybody!
Day 21: PUSH UPS: Today I did first 11, then 5 and 5
I am doing the “real” push ups, no knees down and mastering using my tip toes……… For me, 11 in a row is HUGE, I am very happy!!!!!!
SIT UPS: still pretty easy, 21 all at once…….
See you guys soon!!!!
Hello ALL!!! MISS YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!!
I’ve been keepin up doing my challenge EVERYDAY!
i’m still doing knee push ups but i’m progressing and my form is improving! Now i do half of my set one knee/one foot then switch to the other side for the rest of the set!
sit ups… breezy, i’m thinking of a way to change them up… i’ll have pictures soon!
i’m going to Vegas in a couple weeks and i can’t wait to get some awesome scenery pictures for the challenge!
love you all!
p.s. what are the categories for awards? no one said this was a contest!
this has brought a new light to the challenge!!! I’m pumped!!!!
Kevin, I forgot to write that I am keeping a journal, very few comments here and there just to write how things are going for me.
Whoa, 8 work outs in and I can do all my pushups BOY style in a row…. what the heck?! (That is the Utah girl in me coming out). Getting stronger quickly. Thanks Kevin, and Steve and Camille… and all else inspiring me to continue and do better.
Just adding my gravatar.
Hey everyone!……OK…I’m a day behind…..I decided Sunday to take a full day off from training..(Don’t judge me) …And it was good………….Looks like everyone is doing good….Come on people send in those Pics and videos…….!
Jenjen, I knew you would kick a…. very soon……I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!
This week is going to be hard for me, but I am up for the challenge!!!! Glad to be back!
Still going strong here. Took 3 days to do some on my knees and on the stability ball because the shoulder started feeling funny again. Took a day off after that, caught up, and am back to full speed! Been playing around with situps a bit. Today I did them on the decline bench at the gym.
We forgot to check in…but we are all doing it as a family too. The boys are even doing the challenge…at least at this point. I think Camden is going to back out he said today that 25 was just too many!!!
Is anyone interested in coming to UFC this weekend if we have it here at our house??? I know Brent and Lynay are going to be gone and Robin and Kevin I think might be gone too. Let us know if you would come if we have it!!
David and Nicole Rafferty
Update. Day 27 – still going strong… no major issues. We’re past the first quarter everyone!!! Well, maybe in days.
Day 28: The last few days were hard for me, but I still did them all!!! I feel good, I think I am getting better at it….. Got 12 push ups in a row, I know for most of you it’s nothing, for me it’s a lot!!!!!! Still going strong with my sit ups.
Keep up the hard work!!!!!!!
I’ve had a 24 hour bug, in bed alllllllll day yesterday and i still did my push ups… well i did them incline on the stairs about halfway up but i did them, i’m feeling better today so i’ll do todays’ and make up my sit ups from yesterday!
miss you all!!!
Still going strong here. I’ve had some flu or something brewing all week, but I’m still getting in my reps.
Threw in some plyo pushups for fun yesterday, and tried a couple behind the back hand clap pushups. Didn’t quite get those ones, but I’ll keep working on that one. Couldn’t do a lot of reps with the plyos because I’m still being conservative with the shoulder.
I’m still keeping up with the situps quite well. Mixing those up a bit. I get bored with situps very easily.
Good job to all of you still going and seeing positive gains already from your efforts!
Ughh, its getting much harder, but i am still hanging in there, starting to get sore, but also seeing some gains in stamina… wow!
Now I’m a bit embarrassed. As pleased as I am that I’m doing it all (15 now in a row, boy style of course! – then switching to sit ups, then finishing out), my 4 year old is putting me to shame. Today she did hers with her feet up on the step (2 up, you know, the step aerobic thing?) at the gym. Course her form is WAY off, but she’s positive she’s better than me. She’s getting in my head a little! Just kidding. Having fun so far and you’re right Steve, it doesn’t take very long at all so I can’t complain too much.
Hey peps…….Day 31…….I did 2 weeks of KTE’s (knees to elbows) this week I will do Hollow Rocks for sit ups……they are allot faster so I might double the #……and I think I will be going to bench press this week before the #’s get out of control…….Everyone doing great!………..Hey something to think about for all those in this that are far away…..we will be finishing the 100 days on May 17th…..That weekend will be the Relay for Life event……so if you guys can make it down that would be awesome!!! Let me know what you think…..And if you all even read these post…….See ya!
Breathing heavy…just finished 31. My husband is most impressed that I’m sticking with this.
I’m overdue for blogging. I’ve done pretty well. I missed Saturday so yesterday had to do 59. Breaking it up helped. Thanks for that suggestion Steve. I’m having some pain in my lower left abdomen, like a pulled muscle or hernia (I had one once, so sort of remember the pain). Wondering if I should work through it or modify my sit-ups. Any suggestions? My shoulders are still feeling good. Yeah! Eric and I still haven’t hooked up but definitely will sometime before this challenge ends.
Susan……Hopefully not a hernia…..If it is STOP!……Most likely you just have some Tearing……you get little micro tears whenever you workout….yours is probably just slightly larger……….make sure your not straining to much…..try and do sit ups smooth….if you cant then anchor your feet……let me know if this helps
I felt around in that area last night with my muscles tensed and didn’t feel anything that feels like a hernia. Still, my husband is concerned. I had been anchoring my feet already (should I not have been? (for a better workout?) Today I just did crunches. I did them slow and deliberately and it still felt like a decent workout. I’ll do crunches for a few days to give the muscle a rest and see if it improves. Thanks Bodyfit (whoever you are!)
I’m in! Been in, actually… but now just seeing this site and realize I’ve been missing out on the community aspect of it all. Got my boys joining me too. Lower back clicks during situps, so have to figure out what that’s all about! Thanks Steve.
Hey everyone………This week I started doing Hollow Rocks (if you go to crossfit.com then to exercise demos then gymnastics you should see it) in place of sit ups…..I’m doing double the count…….if anyone does it try and stay with the daily # until you get good form………some of you complain of lower back pain when we practiced the other day…..keep working it just do a little at a time
WELCOME Brett glad to have you on board!….Please keep us updated on everyone’s progress…….when your able introduce us to your boys……..The clicking in your back, is it painful?….let me know
Susan…………Anchoring your feet is fine……Id rather you do that than crunch’s……engage your legs when you do them and don’t fall back to your shoulders descend easy…..and use those arms…..start with your arms over head while on your back them use them as momentum….don’t be jerky try and be smooth………..I hope that helps….let me know
I missed yesterday due to being in bed all day long. Got a wicked stomach flu or something. I’ll be catching up with little sets throughout today so I don’t get behind. Gonna get back to work on that behind the back hand clap pushup after I don’t feel like a limp noodle anymore.
Susan, another exercise you may want to try (assuming it’s not a hernia) is tabletops. If Kevin says isometrics are fair game in this challenge, then that may be a good sub for you for the short term if you are having pain. It’s like holding the plank position in a pushup, but instead of being on your palms, you are on your elbows and toes keeping your body rigid, not letting your hips raise or drop. We do these at the end of boxing class some times, after all the other ab work, and they’re pretty tough. Maybe hold for a number of seconds equal to the number of reps you’d be doing if doing situps? Just a suggestion that may help those who are having pain in a range of motion.
Day 33: Trying Hollow Rocks for my sit ups…..wow, they are hard to do!!!! my upper abdominal muscles were on fire!!!!!!! I am breaking up my push ups into 3 groups, max in a row: 13!!!!!! Considering that when I started working out I could only do 3 in a row (about 2 months ago) I AM VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!!
THANKS KEVIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Brett, which Brett? Is this the Brett I know? I’m just down my situps for the day today. I’ll catch em on the tail end of the day before I hit the hay! Steve, you have too many of your peeps competing! Knock it off man!
Paul, we are shooting daily and archiving until just before the deadline! There is no way we are going to have happen what happened to Kevin with the “New Last-Minute Steve B Entry” last challenge! No way man!
Give it your best shot Brent. I only need one photo or video. But so far I’d say Paul is the one to beat – did his pushups immediately after crossing the finish line of his triathlon!!!
Ok so now I am doing like 30+ of each and I am beginning to feel pain- no pain no gain- so they say. What is this “scaling” thing? Can I split half in the morning and half in the evening? What are some acceptable options?
Chuck, you can split them however you want throughout the day. I personally find it easier to get them all done in the same general time by doing as many pushups/situps as possible straight, resting just a few seconds.. then do several more… rest a few seconds, repeat until they’re done. You can also achieve this by doing as many pushups in a row as possible, then switching to situps – doing the same number. Switch back to pushups and do as many more as possible, then switch back again to situps to match that number – repeat until done. Day 35!!! You’re getting there!!!
AAAAAHHHH!!! Day 36. I have been working a new schedule at a new job and started to fall behind but I was able to catch back up. I can say I’m exhausted, yet proud of myself. I have actually been doing my pushups at work in sets of 10 in between tasks and situps at home after work. I need to warm up a little better now that the reps are getting up there. My right shoulder hasn’t been feeling to good the past few days but I’m sure I’ll be fine. However, I am more than happy to take advice from anyone who has dealt with the shoulder pain.
Amanda, do you remember me and the burpee challenge? With my shoulder all whacky? Be cautious of the pain. If you are feeling pain then definitely get smart. If you think you need to warm up before doing these, then you need to warm up before doing these. I’ll show you a good shoulder warmup you can do, we’ll get together Sunday or Monday. Let me know when is good for you. Call me.
We are still low enough in reps where you could dedicate 5 or 10 minutes of your day to pushups and that would include a warmup, and 3 or 4 sets of 10, however many we are at right now. 10 minutes out of your day to solidify some workout habits is a small commitment to make. You can do it! If you feel sharp pain happen during a rep, or feel a “popping” or “snapping” type of sensation during a rep, then stop.
My sister is now working the graveyard shift. Anyone who’s worked 3rd shift knows how that messes with your energy throughout the day. If anyone else has kept up a successful workout routine on third shift, I’m sure she’d appreciate any input. (Amanda… I’m sure if you kept a JOURNAL you could record in it any pattern of when in your day you have peaks of energy, and plan to do your reps during that time… I’m just sayin’… There might be a reason we are supposed to be keeping track of this kind of thing…)
For me, some days I’m just cranking out the reps. Some days I’m breaking the pushups into sets of 20 + the remainder depending on my own shoulder issues. But, I’m still on track, and intend to work on that behind the back hand clap pushup some more this week.
On #37 today and I thought 11 was hard. Won’t give up — push ups surprising me that I even made it over 15. Great challenge!
Great job Pat!!!! I am very proud of you!!!!!!
We are writing less and less here, I hope that doesn’t mean that people are not keeping up with the challenge.
Day 42 today: I can still do all the sit ups at once. Push ups are getting harder and harder for me, I think I am a little fatigued, so there are days that I just divide them in groups of ten and even ten feels like a lot!!!!!!!!!
I’m still here. I’ve been doing really good about listening to my body and scaling appropriately when I feel a little twinge in the shoulder. Today I was able to do all of my reps unbroken and unscaled. It’s not the first day I’ve done that, but it’s still nice.
Brent… which Brett? The cool one, of course. The one who would be a better friend if he lived closer, which is why you all should move to San Diego. Bring Steve and the fam too. Heck bring everyone. There are houses here for sale if you haven’t heard. Million dollar home next to us going for 500K. What a deal!
Click on my name and you’ll know who I am. See some pretty pics too.
Ah, I thought that was you! Cool pics? You?
Ok, so I’m still going strong. Just down my situps for the day. Heading to my afternoon crossfit workout with Pauly Gman!
So Brett with a double “tt” – alot of fancy talk and marketing but…. what about your pushups and situps?
Time flies – I haven’t written since March 8. But I have kept up with the challenge and am feeling strong! My abdominal pain is completely gone. I’m generally breaking my routine into 3 pieces, so 15, 15, 16 yesterday, alternating between sit ups and push ups.
I had a massage 10 days ago and the therapist said my chest muscles were really tight and that I should be stretching after my push ups. Duh. Why didn’t I think of that? So I’ve started doing that.
Eric, sorry I forgot to get in touch about this past Sunday – we had talked about working out at the park. Maybe this weekend?
Susan… massage therapists claiming you have a sore chest probably needing extra attention? Not sure how that one slipped by the moderator. What has this forum become?
Day 51 and still going. Went down to the park and was intending to do 10-10-10-10-11 alternating sets of pushups and hanging situps. Ended up having to break the situps different, and could’ve gone harder on the pushups. I videoed it and this was the first time I’ve seen myself do pushups. I never realized how crappy my form is. I need to keep my back and neck straighter. Here’s a link if anyone wants to see where I workout most of the time.
Susan, there’s still time to get together. We’ll stay in touch. I have a friend I used to do some training with who’s been bothering me to get something going again, and I’ve been inclined to put together a class of sorts, maybe Monday, Wed, Fri, and a weekend day late morning. I’ll let you know, and you’ll be more than welcome to join if I do. It will probably be a lot of kettlebell and martial arts stuff.
Good job Eric, nice to see a video of the challenge!!!!
Day 52… We’re not even halfway yet… but it feels good to know we’re past the 50 mark. Nice to see Eric’s video especially since he’s no longer just a miniature photo icon – he’s stepped up to video! Nice to see you Eric and good job on what looked like some painful upside down situps. My status is that I took yesterday off and I owe double today, but still in this thing strong. Looking forward to my abs of steel in this remaining 48 days!!!
I am so sore from our last work out that today I really had a hard time doing my push ups….., even two felt too much!!!!!! So, I really divided them in small groups, but I did them all!!!!!!! Still doing my sit ups all at once, I am going to try to do them all 100, but today my lower back was KILLING me!!!!!
Steve, me too I am happy we are past the 50 day mark!!!!!!!
Day 57. I’m learning the hard way how important it is to do these early in the day. I have had too many days where it’s bedtime and I haven’t done them. I missed a couple days since I wrote last and also have learned that the higher the numbers the more horrible it is to miss a day.
Eric I loved your video!
Steve, my massage therapist was the creepiest, heavy breathing guy I’ve ever had a massage from. He probably was getting cheap thrills!
Still in here. I think I’m going to be doing this week’s pushups on my fingertips. Just tried an L-sit from the floor, and while I can hold the L-sit ok, my fingertips can’t keep up with my abs and hip flexors. Time to strengthen them a bit.
As for sit ups. Have I mentioned how I dislike them? Just not one of my favorite movements. I’ll have to do what I can to keep them fun. I’ve probably done more hanging knee lifts, hanging leg raises and stuff like that so far than situps.
I wonder how many of us are still in this………
Today day 75, I am still doing them!!!!!!!, even if I hurt my back……. I AM NOT GIVING UP!!!!!!!!!
I’m still in at day 80. Haven’t missed a day, but can’t do them continuously.
Ok Hello, I am still in this up here in Oregon. I kept losing track of the days so at day 38, I just started doing 50 a day of each. I lost track again of the days, was not in the loop so when I knew we had hit day 50, i started doing 75. Just so happens I checked in today and its day 75! So now what? I am going to have to do 2 sets of 50, I am killing myself with 75.
75 today in sets of 15. This is getting boring! A little tiring but I’m feeling pretty strong! 25 more days…. then what?
Then, you all have to be here with us and be part of our team at the Relay for Life, May 16/17…… We can do 100 push ups and 100 sit ups together, be in the relay for 24 hours, have fun and honor the people that battled cancer!!!!!!!!
I’m in it – but of course!!!! Chuck – yes do two sets of 50… I am doing 100 per day as well until the end, but I am still resting somewhat – can’t seem to do them straight – especially pushups.
Susan… congrats and keep with it, this is the hardest part (the last 25 days). After that you have many many options… keep with it for a certain number per day, make your own new challenge (burpees, air squats, etc.) or follow along with this website – there will be a new Better Body Challenge – but it might not be for a couple of months or so.
Susan….Bored?….Your an animal…..Change it up…instead of push ups try handstand holds…or Ball pass….or ???? make it fun!!!! Keep it up.. good job!!!!!!!!!
Good to hear from you Chuck… keep going!!!!
EVERYONE….SEND IN YOUR VIDEO OR PICS!!!!!!!!
We’re all still in it…kids are doing great. I’m so proud that they are going to finish this!! Push-ups are still stinkin’ hard!!
Still hanging in there! Today will be #83. Went away for two weeks to visit grandchildren and continued push-ups each day. I had to give up on sit-ups due to back problem, but have substituted squats. I now know that after the 100 days, I will continue to do these exercises every day — feeling great!
Still going here. Got more pics on the way.
Hey guys, still doin the push-up and sit-up chalenge.
I can’t believe I did 24 extra push-ups today in karate. :-O
Ok, so I ended up 6 days behind. Had a trip to KC, came back with a little cold and then last weekend ran the Ragnar 24 hour run Relay from Santa Barbara to Dana Point. This put me 6 days behind. I’m not down to 280! Will knock them out Saturday for sure! Keep up the good work all! I am so proud of Taylor and Shane!
I am proud of Taylor and Shane too!!!!!!!!
Great job kids!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Elena. Thanks dad.
I wounder what the kid workout is today?
Taylor and Shane will be the ones to watch for great things!!! But I can’t rule out the next generation of Keagan and Ava – only time will tell. We’ll be trying to keep up with the younger generation soon.
I was able to witness my Mother’s incredible form on her pushups while she was visiting – incredible!!! I am so proud of you Mom!!!
Also, my sister called to inform me that she is getting complimented on how “buff” her arms have become by many, many perfect strangers at the gym, store, doctor, etc. – all attributed to the challenge.
Jaisaeng also informed me that he is still in this thing and he also reported that he has been able to do ALL of the pushups straight through!!! He also is pretty confident he can do 100 straight!!!
Me…. I can’t seem to improve my pushup straight number – I give up around 35 every time. Not sure what I can do to surpass that – lactic acid just gets too strong and takes me down!
GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!!!….Almost at the end………Our 100 day of the challenge will be at the Relay for Life event (16th and 17th) Sunday is day 100….we will complete the 100 together that morning……Everyone that plans on staying over night should let us know so we can prepare……Also for those who enjoy the “beat downs” I plan on completing some serious WOD’s anyone interested in joining me let me know……Keep up the hard work!
Wish I could join you for the Relay for Life and day 100. Looks like I’m going to have to keep my schedule open for the new job so they can start filling me up with clients. We definitely need to make some time sooner or later to hit a WOD together. Maybe I’ll make it a point to hit a cert. in SoCal when I get around to knocking that off the checklist, and kill 2 birds with one road trip or something.
Serious WOD’s?? Oh man, I’m in, even though my brain is screaming at me to say NOOOOOO! Can’t help myself!
No… There I said it! I’m in! So whatrwedoin? Can’t wait for the beat down!
Oh, and I’m now in the 200′s. Finally feel like I’m catching up! It’s been brutal for me, more mentally!
I am scared!!!!!, but I am in, too!!!!!! We’ll see what I will be able to do between the walking/running, the challenge, the lack of sleep………but I am sure it will be fun!!!!!!!!!
Good job Dad! hoping to finish todays push-ups and sit-ups at kevin’s house for my mom’s workout!
Ok, so after 150 burpees and situps yesterday, and 28 added pushups and situps lastnight, I’m all caught up (except for today)! Finally!
Awesome job Brent!!!!!!!!
day 90….oh man, we’re almost done!!!! Yay!
I’m still in. I haven’t done a set of pushups over 25 reps for most of the challenge, but on the plus side, I haven’t messed up my shoulder at all either.
Kevin, I’m on a different computer than usual, so I don’t have your email handy, but I did upload some pics to my facebook page. I’ll email them to you when I can if you’d like them at all. Anyone who wants to see them can feel free to add me as a friend on facebook. I think the link is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1068726873&ref=profile .
Day 94……. I can’t wait to be done!!!!!, but I have to say it is making a huge difference for me and I am very happy about that!!!!!!!!
Well, it’s 11:30 a.m. here on the East Coast and I have FINISHED the CHALLENGE!! Never thought I’d be able to do 100 push ups when this all started — and — Steve — I did 40 in a row this morning, with some effort, but made it through. I feel great and know I will continue to include push ups as a part of my daily routine! Also, since I had to substitute squats for the sit-ups my legs feel a lot stronger and they also will become a part of my daily routine. Thanks and congratulations to all who made it through.
I finished mine directly on the beach, waves crashing, probably the most peaceful finale to a challenge. Waiter… Bring me another Mai Tai please!
Today something was missing in my daily routine……..!!!!! I can’t believe we are done!!!!! I am so happy!! I didn’t think I would finish it! (I am very happy with myself!!!!) It helped me a lot, my push ups are very good and I can do a lot of sit ups all at once!!!!!! Great job to everybody that finished it!!! I have to say I am very proud of Taylor, Shane and Pat (Steve’s mom) for completing this!!!! Awesome job!!!!!!!!
We’re done, We’re done…. Oh yeah, this is me doing the happy dance!!!!
