  2. Lynay & Brent says:

Ok, so today we started. I put all of the number of burpees for each day on my calendar so I could keep track–I’m odd like that… Anyway, as I was writing down the numbers, I started to get very scared!!!! Anyway, still in and excited to see what we can all do. And Tim, is the competition on??? You’re a stud at 5.4′ 11/16″!

  3. Karen says:

Lynay- I did the same thing with my planner. You’re not odd! We are “highly organized”… at least that’s what I say to justify my perfectionist ways. =)

Tim- LOL, you can’t forget the 11/16″! I am 5’4″ and a half… the half is VERY important! =P

  4. SteveB says:

Since you’ve both done the calendar work, can you email it to me. :)

  5. SteveB says:

I timed my 100 burpees for the start at approx 9min 30sec. Looking forward to my time at the end.

  6. Ramses says:

I did 100 burpees as my Sunday workout followed by 1 1/2 mile run. Burpees 13:22 run 12:49. I’m with Steve, looking forward to a better future time! :)

  7. Bodyfit says:

Hey everyone we are back from Laughlin……We had fun, but it was hot…we even got in a little workout………Day three on the Challenge no problem !

  8. Lynay & Brent says:

Ok, I’m super impressed by the times posted for the 100 burpees already! I’m not sure I want to do 100 burpees just yet-workin’ up to it! Maybe next week…..

  9. SteveB says:

Lynay, that defeats the purpose – you should do them now so that you can compare – trust me, you might have a bad time for the first 100 but that’s the only way to see how much you improved! Right? Right.

  10. Brent says:

Day 4 – Hit the crossover fitness workout this morning (Brandon’s Studio) and did 50 burbees with 50 lunges! Lynay is very scheduled! Honey your not Odd and even if you were, I’d still love you! I thing Steve is doing 100 burpees each day? Steve?

  11. SteveB says:

I need a clarification please. Kevin mentioned using “Burgener’s burpee standards” This is completely different than the burpees we have been doing or been trained to do. Is this simply a cut and paste issue from another website or can we do burpees the way we’ve been trained?

  12. Karen says:

I am so glad you guys are participating in the website part of the challenge!

Alright, I am not super-people like the rest of you regular bodyfitters so I must say, burpees suck =P! That being said, I am glad I am doing them! Since I am a fitness newbie I am unconcerned with time and cannot even do 100 burpees… yet! So, I am content with improving each day and know that by day 100 I will have accomplished something that I never would have attempted if not for this challenge. It’s only day 4 and I am already grateful for this experience. :)

  13. Lynay & Brent says:

Just think of the accomplishment when we are all done–over 5000 burpees in 100 days-WOW!!! Steve, I don’t wanna do 100! I probably will later this week, though-after my body isn’t sore-oh, when is that ever gonna happen! I guess I might as well do ‘em soon!

  14. Bodyfit says:

Ok………Steve ask what type of Burpee we are to do….“Burgener’s burpee standards” or the way I trained you guys to do them…….1st the Picture of the guy doing them in sequence is squatting at the beginning……..thats the way Ive showed you thats how they should be done…….2nd the difference between “Burgener’s burpee standards” or the way I trained you guys to do them is their is a clap at the end of the burpee i demonstrated……..Since we aren’t all clear I will demonstrate tomorrow………….I hope that helped everyone

  15. Brent says:

Nope, still confused??? You said to flop down and out at the same time as doing a pushup (a time saving issue forsure!). I don’t recall anything about a squat? If we have to squat, then I’m out!

  16. Bodyfit says:

No………you still have a squat right……….has anyone done a burpee without one if so check for a dislocated shoulder……..seriously are all you guys worried about your time ? If you are your in for the wrong reason……this ones not so much about how fast you are but how well you preform your movement(s) and the accomplishment………I really want all of you to ask yourself why am i doing this ? Is it to be the one who beats so and so……or has the best time……………….My goal in every workout I do is to push myself harder each time….to beat the clock with the best form possible…….Good form or the Fastest ? The answer YES! I’m not satisfied with my time if my form suffers……My only Competition is ME…..yes others will help push me but i still must remember not to compromise my form if the person I’m “chasing” isn’t………….I can see this is getting away from the original purpose…To accomplish this CHALLENGE together as one group climbing this mountain together.
Does anyone have anything else to say my fingers are tired .

  17. Lynay says:

Wow! That was long, Kevin! I get it–don’t go for the fastest time, do them well! right? (Coming from me, who is SLOW at burpees) Anyway, I think giving a demo tomorrow or whenever you see us, is a great idea before we get into the big number of burpee days–just so we’re all clear! Brent’s just messin’ with all of us!

  18. Bodyfit says:

Hows everyone doing ? Right now is a good time to really focus on your form while the reps are low…………This Sat. after In and Out Fran (if i survive) I will go over the proper form of the burpees. Let me know if you will be attending and since your there you can workout.

  19. Brent says:

Form checked and executed well! Still over 5000 burpees left and counting! Now, you gota stopwatch I can borrow?

  20. Karen says:

    Hey, Everyone!

    Dion had a good question:

“Anyone know why they call them burpees and/or who invented them?”

I looked it up on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burpee but it didn’t give any info on who came up with it or where the name came from, any ideas?

  21. Bodyfit says:

The burpee is also called the squat-thrust exercise. It’s rumored to have been developed, perhaps by someone named Burpee, in maximum security prisons, where no exercise equipment is allowed.

  22. [...] Already part of the Challenge?  Don’t forget to keep up updated HERE. [...]

  23. tim says:

just checking in…. I’v done the required # of burpees so far (including todays ) Have not done 100 yet… probably will soon… for comparison later. Lynay..yes..its always on…even if it doesn’t appear so on those days I’m letting you win( RE: your comment on 8/15 )…. I’ll try to post more often but when you can type 6 words a minute….well you know.

  24. Bodyfit says:

Good Job every body keep it up! Hey tell your friends and family they can still get in…….they would just have to do the required amount of burpees…….and don’t forget to sign up for the Hooverball Tournament on the 30th i still see allot of you have not done that yet….we need to make teams so get on it and tell your friends…..stay strong

  25. Matt Fuller says:

Day 7. Seven Burpees following a loooooong stretch and being sore as hell from my workout with Ramses. Dude, I still hate you, but in a good way….

  26. Steve says:

Day 7. Got bored today and decided to try 220 burpees mixed with 100 situps. Not too bad, mainly very loud breathing and collapsing under the much too slow fan. It was a solitaire gone bad.

  27. Bodyfit says:

Sounds like everyone is doing good and keeping up with their Burpees. Chasity text me today(she on a little vacation)She’s been doing her Burpees in some unique places…Angel Stadium….Deep sea fishing……as soon as she gets back with the pics we will post them………Anyone else have pics of unique, odd pics preforming your burpees ? Email them and we will see How creative you are…………Have Fun !

  28. Karen says:

Kevin- Thanks for the burpee history lesson! Also, I love the idea of having a photo contest to see who can take the picture of doing burpees in odd places. Would you like me to post it on the main page?

Tim- Aww, 6 words a minute is great considering that you you type with your hooves, Pretty Pony! =P

    Steve- 220 burpees AND 100 sit-ups? Awesome *cough*show-off*cough* =P.

Matt- I am so glad you are sticking with the Challenge and keeping us updated! Be prepared for Ramses to kick your butt again on Monday!

Alright, now for my update… we are only on Day 9 and these things are kicking my butt. I mixed them in with one of my regular workouts yesterday and almost died. So, Kevin if this Challenge kills me you have to promise to take care of Ramses for me. =)

  29. Bodyfit says:

Ha ha…………I promise but I wont spoon with him……Cant wait for tonight (not) I hope everyone is ok with watching me puke………I just wanted everyone to know how proud i am of you………no matter what i throw @ you your ready and willing……..Thank you for making what we do fun and challenging………..So dont hog all the fun tell your friends and family…..encourage them to walk, run,do something active……Tell them to stop making excuses and get healthy we only get 1 chance @ life make the best of it NOW ! STAY STRONG !

  30. Eric Frey says:

Hello all. Couple of questions. I found your site from a link in the comments on the crossfit main site. Is this burpee challenge open to any old denizen of the net, or is it just kind of an in house thing? I’d like to work this with you guys and keep track with you all. If it’s open, I bought in just now with 91 burpees spread out in sets of 3 (save the last set where I did the final 7 all together) each minute during a 5 k run. Let me know if you need more bodies to abuse, and if that counts as a good buy in. Thanks, and great site.

  31. Karen says:

Ack! I forgot my burpees yesterday! Now I have to do 23 today. So not looking forward to that.

Welcome, Eric! The more the merrier! I think it’s safe to say that what you’ve done so far is a pretty good “buy in.” 91 burpees during a 5K? Awesome!

  32. Eric Frey says:

Thanks a lot. I’ve got a goal of being able to do a single set of 100 pushups (which I haven’t tested lately). I figure if I can get to 100 burpees, pushups will be cake.

  33. Karen says:

Oh, definitely! Once you get to 100 burpees then 100 push ups will be no problem. We’re glad to have you on board!

  34. SteveB says:

Note to self – be careful: Injured shoulder Saturday and have been doing modified burpees (can’t do pushups). As a result, I have been doing additional modified burpees to make up for it (everything the same except don’t bend arms for pushups). Waiting to test the waters a little longer – don’t want to keep injuring it. Oh, and only 86 more days people!

  35. Eric Frey says:

Kevin and Karen suggested I offer up a better introduction of myself, and since camaraderie is what this is all about, here goes.

I’m a 32 year old married guy from Tucson, AZ with 2 little boys. I am a website designer/internet marketer/webmaster and part time school bus driver.

I am currently a green belt in karate, and will be testing for my green belt in kendo next week and got interested in fitness about a year ago when I realized that a couple martial arts classes a week does NOT a martial artist make (at least not a good one anyhow). So, an independent study of fitness ensued, and became somewhat of an obsession. Sifting the wheat from the chaff of exercise info on the net lead me to finding the crossfit site, and I’ve been modeling workouts around the crossfit ideals lately, and doing the WOD when equipment is not a limitation.

Last semester I started attending community college here to work towards becoming a personal trainer. Since the classes conflict with work this semester I was advised by the head of the department to self study, get certified, and then finish the program as I could and consider it professional development.

My hobbies include video games, anime, and getting punched in the face by my wife who has recently gotten me hooked on her boxing addiction.

Did my 14 burpees today, but like an idiot I didn’t do them earlier after working out. Nooo, stupid me saved them for after dinner and a beer.

Anyhow, enough about me. I hope everyone’s doing well with their burpees!

  36. SteveB says:

Eric, I lived in Tucson for a few years. I cannot imagine crossfit in 115 degrees. At least in Southern CA we can get a slight reprieve in temperature at 6pm – I don’t think Tucson cools down below 100 until midnight or so. I miss “Sanchez” burritos, hiking, and the best sunsets anywhere. Welcome to the club!

  37. tim says:

Welcomr Eric. Thanks for the motivation. I better dust of my abicus (sp?) and figure out how many burbees i have to do today to catch up….. lynay , I wish we were doing that last Murph together ( 9 sec diff ) it would have been cool pushing that second mile together.

  38. [...] an awesome job! Remember to keep us updated. . . the comments are closed for this post but go the Challenge Update page and drop us a [...]

  39. Lynay says:

Tim, the Murph would have been fun–was a butt kicker as always. That 2nd mile was sure a hard one. I bet our times would have been faster if we were running it against each other–push each other hard as always. Keep it up-look how far we’ve come. If only I could get the push-ups without the band–those darn push-ups!!!

  40. Lynay says:

    ok, meant pull-ups.

  41. Dion says:

Hooverball was so amazing! I had such a great time and who knew that I would get my daily (actually two days worth) burpees accounted for just by coming today. Miracles do happen..Back to Hooverball, if points were calculated on how many times we knocked over the net, I would have done quite well for my team. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend. By the way, I should get some kudos for posting a message…that means I have visited the site! Dion

  42. Bodyfit says:

Hi………..Ok I will confess I was 3 Days behind…45 burpees……..but they were easy to knock out…….Thankfully were not in the 40s or 50s………So the moral of the story is do your burpees!!!!!! Send in your pictures…….stay strong!

  43. Eric Frey says:

I’m a day behind as as well, so I’ll make them up today. Yesterday, I went to the park with the kids, my wife, and some friends and plowed through 3 hours of training boxing, karate, and ju-jitsu, tug of war with the kids, and practicing rope pullups. After all that and a wicked arm bar that kept my left elbow and shoulder going snap crackle pop for the rest of the day, I had more nap in me than burpees. But it was all good fun. Have a nice Labor Day everyone.

  44. tim says:

I’m all caught up…… Thanks to the workouts this weekend. Hooverball was very cool .. again. I’ll try to be quieter next time :)

  45. Bodyfit says:

Day 19……….Still easy………….Hows everyone doing ?………..Post Post Post

  46. Karen says:

“Still easy”, huh? Please remind me to kick you in the shin the next time I see you. It stopped being “easy” for me about 9 days ago! I started figuring them into the warm-up before my workouts. I have to break them up… already! This is going to be a very long 100 days for me.

  47. SteveB says:

Karen, I’m proud of you. This is a mental game as much as it is physical. Keep a positive attitude and it’s much easier. When it’s done are you starting a crossfit regimen? I can’t imagine doing this for 100 days and then stopping – well maybe, but here’s hoping it’s the start of much more.

  48. Karen says:

Aww, thanks, Steve! Positive attitude, got it! I guess that means I should stop saying “I hate burpees” every time I start them, huh? :)

Last week I started working out with Ramses on his off days Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sun and he’s having me do workouts Kevin had him do when he first started at the beginning of the year. They have been very tough but I am truly enjoying them! Even though I am still struggling, I am starting to feel pretty capable, yay me! So I guess you can say I am doing a Bodyfit regimen now. We are in the process of outfitting our garage more like Kevin’s. Kevin likes to say that we have started a new satellite location- Bodyfit, Perris! :)

  49. Eric Frey says:

Did my 19 today after testing my 1RM on the stupid chest press pulley machine at the gym in our apartment complex and going 3-3-3-3-3 on the shoulder press machine. Funny how since the last time I tested my 1RM for the chest press, it hasn’t changed, but my 3 rep shoulder press is heavier than my previous 1RM shoulder press on the machine. The only thing I’ve been doing “extra” with my shoulders than usual is light weight stuff like medicine ball drills and the drill at 2:30 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3QER1aZgjQ . My med ball is 12 lbs, and the equipment for the kendo drill ranges from less than 1 lb to maybe 2 lbs, so no real resistance, just tons of reps.

Anyhow, it seems that as we get up in reps, I’m going to have to get more creative with how I work the burpees into my workout. I thought 1 set of 100 would be a good ultimate goal, but I’m not sure how many more reps I can add before I need to start breaking them up.

Keep nailing your burpees everyone. This is good fun so far.

  50. Ramses says:

Hey Everyone I figured that since a couple of people have left quick bios that I should too. My name is Ramses, I’ve known Kevin for a few years and he broke my leg like two years ago and we’ve been friends ever since. I’ve been working out at Bodyfit going on nine months and i’ve lost a total of 31 Lbs. Kevin has made bodyfit a part of my life and life is great right now. I wanted to say welcome to Erik our newest online member. I was studying Kendo and japanese swordmanship for many years and still love it today. So it’s nice to meet someone else that appreciates the way. Burpee day 20, no problem…kinda! =)

  51. Eric Frey says:

Ramses, another kendo enthusiast, awesome! With the exception of my sensei, nobody else in class works out outside of class, so it’s nice to meet another person who is both into kendo AND really developing the capabilities of the human body. We’ve had a lot of people go off to college this past year, so it’s mostly us noobs left. I explained the burpee challenge to the class last week, and gave a small demonstration of the exercise. One guy grunted in disapproval, another said that looks cool, but admitted he’d never try an exercise like that (hell, he admits to not exercising – ever). And they wonder why they tire faster than me when we fight…

Steven, rock on having direction at that age! That’s awesome.

  52. Karen says:

Well, there seems to be a little bio trend happening here so I figured that I’d do one too… I cave easily to peer pressure. Most of you know me as Ramses’ wife, admin/designer for bodyfit4everybody.com, and the one behind the camera during all your weekend workouts. Those of you who read my blog at http://mymounteverest.wordpress.com/ know a bit more but I will break it down here as well. First the generic info: I’m 29 yrs old, 5’4″ & 1/2… as Tim knows every little bit counts :) , and my weight is none of yo’ business, I’ll just say “a lot” but I’m working on it!

Now for the stuff that makes me “me.” Ramses and I are high school sweethearts. We met in a PE class in Jr High when he threw rocks at me to get my attention that was shortly followed by the first words I ever spoke to him, “You’re such a jerk!” He wrote me a cheesy apology letter later that day and we’ve been best friends ever since… I still have that cheesy apology letter :) . When I was 21 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The last 8 years have been difficult but I am grateful for where I am now and all the lessons I’ve learned in the process. I am now cancer-free but my life is forever changed because of it. I manage a general contractor’s office which I have been doing for most of my adult life, 10 years, in fact. I’m good at my job but I am not passionate about it. My ultimate goal is to help other people like me. My interests are all across the board… I love to write it’s been a passion all my life (as you can see by the length of this post). I love to read anything I can get my hands on from comic books to the classics. I am a huge MMA fan and love “guy” movies and video games. But I keep my girlie cred by never missing an episode of Project Runway.

At the start of this year I decided that it was time for me to take control of health. I started seeing a medical nutritionist in March and started working out. I was sidelined for about 6 weeks because of surgery but I am finding my stride and feeling great. Being a part of Bodyfit and getting to know all of you has been nothing short of wonderful and truly inspiring.

  53. Bodyfit says:

Whats up people………Good week ! sort of…….Good workouts anyway……..Day 22 Are you feeling it ? I wanna hear some of your stories about what your friends and family are saying about this Challenge……….and I know some of you have gotten a few days behind…..If you need some support don’t be shy please ask for help….Remember why you started this challenge…..don’t let your hard work fade away………….Also I will be contacting people who signed up and aren’t posting their progress……so post post post……and for those who have given up or quit I will be removing names from the list………any opinions………let me know

  54. Eric Frey says:

Did yesterday’s and today’s burpees this morning. .75 mile jog to park. 50 situps, 10 dips, 3×2 pullups (I suck at those), 5 one-legged squats per leg +45 burpees broken like a schoolgirl’s heart on prom night .75 mile jog back.

Didn’t time it, just took it easy. The real workout will be in a couple hours at my boxing class. The Saturday instructor has a fondness for burpees as well, so I get extra today.

My left elbow is still not right from that arm bar I received last Sunday. Gonna have to put the hurt on my friend tomorrow for pay back!

    How’s everyone else doing?

  55. Bodyfit says:

Hi all…….Sounds like everyone is doing good with the burpees……….still waiting to see some pics of those burpees in weird, unique places…….send them to Karen……..You guys have a good weekend….I cant wait for tonight…..UFC 88 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Stay Strong

  56. tim says:

ok ok I need help/support.. I owe 55 burpees today to be caught up… Not really feeling it at this moment. The workout this morning seemed challenging enough..which means I liked it :) Good job other guys that did it. Good time Steve ! was it 115 F in S J this am ? or was my little pony just overheated ? Hey Kevin , if this Tues workout has 120 burpees included I’ll be caught up again……. See some of you guys tonight Go Chuck Lidell

  57. Eric Frey says:

Did my burpees today in sets of 5 as part of my warmup before training with friends. Tim, if you are still behind, try sets of 5 throughout the day, like anytime you get up from being seated or something. 5 burpee sets aren’t very taxing, and if you spread it throughout the day, you’ll get all caught up no problem.

  58. SteveB says:

Tim, ditto to Eric. But to add to it I would say it’s time to change the mindset and do burpees every single day if possible – I am trying hard not to split them up, but I suppose splitting them up to make it through a tough day is better than skipping a day. It’s easy to say that you’ll do them tommorrow, but soon you will be over 100 burpees after skipping a day. Oh and Tim – thanks for pushing me on Saturday – you may not have known it, but when you started the last set of 25 burpee pullups next to me I felt compelled to push it harder even though I was about collapsing. I couldn’t tell you that on Saturday because I couldn’t breathe.

  59. [...] that’s 285 burpees so far! Make sure that you keep us updated on your progress HERE. It appears that some of us are falling behind, so now is the time to rally behind each other so we [...]

  60. Bodyfit says:

Hi people!!!!!!!!!!……….Day 25 ! Everyone needs to try to do your Burpees consecutively…..Make it your goal to do them without stopping…..You’ve worked on your form….now its time to work on endurance while keeping good form…..If your form starts to break down because of fatigue…take a second , picture yourself doing the burpee perfectly than start back in to it…………..And don’t fall behind , at this point we need to be consistent this will prepare you for the big numbers to come! Good job everyone………STAY STRONG!

  61. Robin says:

yeah…. I caught up on my burpee’s. I’m with you Eric on splitting them up, especially when you have 125 burpee’s to do. It did feel like I was doing burpee’s all day though. I knew I would have a lot of burpee’s to catch up on. My goal is to do them everyday so I don’t have to catch up.

  62. Karen says:

I am glad I am not the the only one who fell behind. I had to do 68 yesterday and I learned my lesson… no more skipping!!! The numbers are getting too high now and there is nothing fun about playing burpee catch-up.

  63. Jenn says:

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say good job to all, better than myself… I am on 20 of 200 today. I guess you can say I have a little bit of catching up to do. .. I get to do my burpees with Kevin, Blake, and Robin while hiking in Idylwild, hope to see you all again. ha, ha =)

  64. Karen says:

Yay! Robin & Jenn read the website too! =P So glad to hear from you both… hey, even your icons are twins!!

  65. Robert says:

I guess I will do an update on my burpee situation. So far I can only do 15 straight before I have to stop because my legs have no desire to continue, but I am still pushing through and doing the daily amount every morning before I take a shower. I am going to try to jump up to 30 starting tomorrow morning, then maybe 35 next week. The most difficult part for me is running out of time in the morning to finish them off.

In addition to all that I am doing whatever burpees Ramses is throwing at me on our Monday and Wednesday workouts.

I hope to be able to do 100 straight at the end of this, but that is looking like a daunting task at this point.

  66. Lynay says:

Hey all…we’re at the river and still doing our burpees. I try to get them done in the morning before it’s 105 degrees! Having a great time, will try to send some pics soon of us doing burpees on the beach, boat, etc! Keep going! See you all in 2 weeks.

  67. tim says:

    Who’s Lynay…? Oh yea I remember.

  68. tim says:

Just kidding….. We miss you both:)

  69. Lou H says:

Just happened across this site. We have a group focused in Chicago that is on day 42 of our own 100 Day Burpee Challenge….looks like it’s the fad this Fall season. Everyone have fun these next couple of weeks!!

  70. Eric Frey says:

Day 30… Check! How’s everyone else doing?

  71. Matt Fuller says:

I think it’s time to do a quick bio and update. I’ve met a few of the bodyfit troupe through Karen and Ramses at Hooverball, where I swear I almost died, and plan on becoming a more than one-time-appearance individual. I’m Matt, I’m 28 years old, and currently live in Riverside with my wife Nikki. I’m a former swimmer and water polo player (11 years former) and have pretty much let myself go for the last ten years. My wife and I met while both training in Kung Fu San Soo with Dave Hopkins in Riverside and have been married since April 5th of this year. I am currently entering my last year at CSUSB to finish my B.A. in European History (12 years for a 4 year degree, not too shabby!) and plan on quitting my thankless job at Costco shortly thereafter to pursue my calling of becoming a teacher. The last time I would consider myself as being in decent shap was about 6 years ago at the height of my training in San Soo. I was a Green Belt then and am currently a Brown Belt. Once school is finished I plan on continuing my martial arts training (gotta shake off a ton of ring rust!) to achieve my goal of finally becoming a Black Belt. My workout career has been plagued by the nagging tendonitis I have in both shoulders, which has been with me for 13 years now, as well as tendonitis in my left knee. The burpee challenge, however, is doing wonders for strengthening my shoulders which has, in turn, boosted my confidence and determination to be in the best shape of my life by my 30th birthday. I’ve got 13 months, and the support of my friends, family, and bodyfit is definitely going to help make it happen/

On to the update: I did 1, count it 1, burpee yesterday at work in order to demonstrate to a co-worker, so that left me with 58 to do today. As of 5:15, I have done 60 and am challenging myself to reach 100 before the day is finished. The burpees aren’t aggravating my shoulders nearly as much as they were in the beginning of the challenge, and although I am still breaking the day’s requirement into sets of 10 (I do plan on increasing this), my cardio recovering from each set is far quicker than it was even a week ago. In addition, I am starting the sets with alot less time in between (5-10 minutes rather than 50-60) and the increased strength in my arms is allowing me to drop deeper on each push-up. My legs aren’t burning out on me like they were a few weeks ago, and even though burpees are one of the most devious exercises created, the results have been totally worth the pain!

Hi everyone…. Here I am again fallen behind on my burpee’s. I need to find a good time to make sure I do my burpee’s. I wake up at 4:00 am and barely have enough time to get ready let alone do my burpee’s. I need to just get them done right after work. Ok I fell off the burpee wagon but this week my goal is to keep up on the burpee challenge.
Lynay- I miss you at the workouts. I would say you are doing so well on the burpee challenge because your on vacation but anyone that knows you would know that is not true. You do everything to the fullest.
Karen… Thanks for all of input on the website. Your awesome in everything you do.

  74. Eric Frey says:

Day 32 is gonna be a drag for me, but I’ll get it done. Lot’s of training this weekend, too much sun, and staying up all night with a sick kid has me just about tapped right now.

As for pics… We were at the park yesterday, and forgot to put the memory card in the camera. Doh!

Matt F., Good luck with your goals. Somehow I think if I had started BEFORE 30, it would have been much easier. So, keep up the good work, and good luck working toward that black belt!

  75. SteveB says:

Is there a hotline for burpee support? Also, has anyone figured out what day will actually be “halfway” in terms of total number of burpees? It’s somewhere after day 50 for sure.

  76. Karen says:

Lynay & Brent- Hope you are having a great vacation, we all miss you! It’s not the same without the Behringers!

Matt- Excellent job getting 100 burpees in one day! I am very proud of you, keep up the good work and we’ll see you today for another “fun” workout.

Robin- I am in a similar boat, I am not in a position to do my burpees in the morning before work, although I am not getting up at 4am… that hour doesn’t exist in my world! The only way to guarantee that I get my daily burpees in is to do them as soon as I get home, preferable in my evening workout. If I don’t I get busy with all the evening chores and I just don’t do them. Oh and just like I tell Kevin… you are very welcome!

Eric- No doubt you’ll get your 32 burpees in today! You are probably one of the most consist among us! Thanks for being a great inspiration.

Steve- If my fancy math skills are working… Day 71 will be the day we hit the midway mark of 2,525 burpees. Once day 71 is done we should be at 2,556!

  77. SteveB says:

Confession time… I have tried to keep this mostly to myself, but with much consideration and the fact news has been leaking, I would like to dispel rumors about my approach to the 100 day burpee challenge. This is day 32 of my “100 burpees per day plus one per day for 100 days”. That’s a mouthful, but it basically means I am doing the daily burpee challenge but also doing an extra 100 per day. Why would anyone do that??? Well, I can only attribute my enthusiasm to the fact that Kevin has trained me well for the past 9 months (I think it’s 9 months) and the close team of friends I’ve made have also pushed me farther than I would have with just personal training. It is definitely due to Bodyfit, you, and of course my personal dedication that I even considered making this modification. I am doing it because I think I can and many of you who have been beside me through these months are probably ready too – certainly physically – just ponder that. I say that because it really isn’t a physical challenge at all as I’ve come to find out – assuming you have been on Kevin’s training for the time I have. In contrast I think that the standard 100 day burpee challenge is probably the single best way to get people started on any workout from scratch with hopes that they continue after the 100 days. I have been called crazy many times, but please know that I am doing this to push myself. With all that said, today I’ve convinced one of you (so far) to join me on this “mental” challenge. At least I think so.. maybe they will have a confession time too and spell out the details. I want to close with the fact that I am in this with all of you and plan on offering whatever support I can to help each of you attain your goals. I could not have considered this without all of your genuine support at our workouts and more.

  78. Bodyfit says:

Hello………Ok well thanks to Steve B I will be joining in on the fun of doing an extra 100 burpees everyday….I had to do 196 yesterday (I hadn’t felt well the last couple days) I knew as soon as I heard that Steve B was doing that Id be sucked in….I don’t think that by doing the challenge this way is a “Hey look at what I can do” Its more of you telling your body “Hey this is what we are doing” This defiantly is a mental challenge….of coarse its physical…but I think if someone truly wants to “get in shape” physically and mentally This is the challenge for you…..So Im starting on day 32 that means I’ll have to continue past the “100″ day mark not sure which day will be the end….I’ll figure it out later…..I don’t fell like this is a competition….its like im fighting myself or my demons ( my “I cant demons” ) and my burpees will slowly and painfully destroy them…..I encourage all of you…However your doing your burpees…make them your weapon and destroy your demons……Thanks Steve B for the nice comments…..And thanks for pushing me further…..Happy to be in this with all of you!!!!!!!

  79. Eric Frey says:

Well, I had to take a rest day yesterday. My body was really giving me the signs. But, I’m already caught up and feeling great today.

I agree that this is a mental thing. My big problem is that I get really passionate about something, dive into it head on, full speed. Then it goes something like this. Dive, burn out, injure (myself, or whatever I’m working on), recover, dive, burn out, etc… That’s my problem with my own business ventures, studies, martial arts, exercise, whatever. It’s a recurring pattern for me, and has held me back from certain goals. So, the burpee challenge is my training in consistency, slow building, patience, etc. My kendo teacher is also working with me on those goals in her own unique way.

You guys doing an extra 100 are an inspiration. My first thought was “Hey, if they’re gonna do that, so am I.” Then I remembered my demons (not the I can’t demons, the charge head first, recklessly and impatiently towards the goal demons). Maybe after this challenge I’ll try it Steve B. style.

    You guys rock!

Hi everyone……………Good job!!!Day 35………so far so good ?……We have a new addition to the challenge Ken C…….He has joined us late……so he is “buying in at something like 520 burpees…..Good job Ken….For those of you who have fallen so far behind that you dont think you’ll catch up…just think of Kens task…..We will be revising the list soon so for those of you who haven’t post yet or have fallen hopelessly behind let us know where you are….This is are journey we are on together….if you need help just ask don’t just quit…..any comments on removing names from the list?

  85. Karen says:

Hey everyone! Well, yesterday was Burpee Catch Up Day o’ Doom at the Casa de Gonzalez… a mouthful, I know. I am not sure how it happened but both Ramses and I managed to skip 3-4 days! So, I chalked up a whopping 152 and Ramses had something like 124 to catch up on… he also had 141 sit-ups but that’s something he’s doing on the side. I am learning that consistency is a hard thing for me, both when it comes to my workouts and my nutrition. If anything this challenge is forcing me to face that issue head-on. Inconsistency results in pretty painful punishment!

I also wanted to welcome Ken! Over 500 burpees to catch up on, huh? Yikes! I have to say, you’re very brave to be tackling that daunting number. One thing to keep in mind is not to kill yourself trying to catch up because it looks like you are fitting in separate workouts as well. Today is day 35 so you can simply do the appropriate number of burpees per day and then divide the amount you are behind by the remaining number of days of the challenge. For example, if you owe 520 you divide that by 65 (days remaining) and you just have to do 8 extra burpees each day (starting today) until the end of the challenge. By day 100 you would have completed 5,050 burpees just like those of us who started last month. Just a suggestion. Glad to have you on board and I look forward to more updates and maybe seeing you at a Saturday workout (hint, hint)! =)

  86. Karen says:

Kevin- I think what you did by adding the “out ?” after people’s names that haven’t checked in with the challenge is a good way to keep track of things. That way if they do update you can simply take that disclaimer off their name. Now, if you know someone has dropped out or doesn’t wish to continue we can either take them off the list or strike the name out to keep the full list from start to finish.

  87. SteveB says:

Tips if you want ‘em. I am listing the top 4 tips below that I’ve learned this far into the challenge. See if you like them or want to add/take away.
    1. Dread is your enemy. Do your burpees every day or you will dread them more on makeup day.
    2. Start your burpees first thing in the morning to combat dread (see above).
    3. DO NOT think or dread about starting the burpees for the day, just start. By the time it takes you to think about it, you could have already completed 10 or more. Refer to #1 above.
    4. Most important tip I’ve learned – breathe heavy!!! Never hold your breath. You should be breathing so loudly throughout that your family yells at you to be quiet. How do you breathe when you run 2 miles? The same way. This tip will help you do more burpees without stopping.

  88. Eric Frey says:

Man, Steve B. has the advice right there. I have to agree about the breathing. Now that we are into higher reps, and I can’t just burn off a few at high speed, the pace of the exercise and the rhythm and intensity of the breathing is seeming very paramount, and when I get into a good groove it’s great. For me, the limiting thing seems to be my thighs. Strange, I feel I could do squats all day sometimes, but after about 20 burpees, the quads are burning something fierce.

    Day 35… Check!

  89. Ken Clark says:

did my burpees allready now we are going swimming ia a unheated pool, then a 3 mile run I hope

  90. Ken Clark says:

Swam 4000 meters with ramses and later only did 2miles mostly walked Im dead tired and out of shape

  91. Bodyfit says:

Hi everyone………Sounds like everyone’s burpees are going well…….Ken good job on the workouts……I’m proud of you…keep it up….stay with it even if your feeling beat…the first 2 weeks are the hardest….If you can get through the 1st 2 wks without fading out you have a higher success rate for achieving your fitness goals….And training with a group or a partner improves your odds greatly……I’m sure we will be seeing you soon @ a group workout…..I hope everyone is well and feeling good Mon is a new week and I’m feeling like we need to get back in the swing of things and kick some major a%^ ! I’m feeling a Murph…..Anyone want to morph a Murph into a fun and butt kicking workout ? 96. Eric Frey says:

Ken, since this thing is going until Nov. 22, I’m thinking the soreness and tiredness will stop around Thanksgiving.

  97. Karen says:

Ken- You are doing awesome! Soreness will become less of an issue after 2-3 weeks of your routine. The pain doesn’t necessarily go away but you’ll become more accustomed to it. Are you stretching after your workouts? I think that people don’t pay enough attention to stretching sometimes. From my personal experience I have found that light stretching along with a warm-up before my workouts then nice, slow deep stretching after (holding your stretches at least 20 seconds each) works wonders to prevent or help soreness. I’ve done it both ways… taking the time to stretch versus just collapsing into a heap after my workouts and I am always less sore when I stretch.

  98. SteveB says:

Ken, get used to it. Sore muscles make you feel more alive don’t you think? We could all let our bodies slip into a gelatinous mush with no pain – but you don’t want that bliss do you? Of course I am definitely biased – misery loves company :)

  99. Ken Clark says:

Today I felt awsome Did my burps ,push ups Swam, and ran. I woke up this morning and felt great. Thanks for the support.

  100. Eric Frey says:

I gotta admit, day 40 was tough for me. I had to do day 38+39 yesterday, plus working on snatches, lots of bike riding (as transportation. I can’t say I understand people who enjoy biking for fitness or recreation), a boxing class with lots of squats and lunges and pushups, karate class, and kendo class. My quads felt like lead today, and I was really thinking of looking into a second car every time I got on that bicycle today.

It was part fear of 81 burpees tomorrow that motivated me to make sure I got 40 in today, and also part trying to focus on my goal of consistency. By far this was the toughest day to stay motivated, even though other days may have had more burpees. But, I’m glad I got it done.

I’m going to have to look into that stretching think Karen’s talking about. I hear all the cool kids are doing it…

  101. Ramses says:

Burpees are going well, great job to all that are on this path of bodily enlightenment. Special congrats to Ken for sticking with it and getting better every day… and being the best boss in the world! ( can i call in sick on Thurs and fri ?) I’m very proud of everyone keep fighting the good fight!

  102. Brent says:

Ken, you did all that then woke up and felt great? Come on quite dreamin about all that excercise! Just razzin ya!

Steve: 1-800-burphlp! Call now, old, fat, burned out burpee ers are standing by!

Ok, so my confession: What you all think I’m crazy enough to do the Steve +100 version? Not!!! That would be like wearing the 20lb vest while doing the murph (Steve)! Here goes: Never go on vacation again! Or at least don’t lie around at the pool or in the boat eating chips, donuts, cheesburgers, chili cheese fries, pretzels and drinking diet sodas all day long! Geeze that filthy fifty killed me yesterday. Talk about suckin wind! Ah it’s good to be back to suckin wind with you all! Don’t let Lynay fool ya all, she ate salads and worked out every morning, plus did her burpees! I was doing my burpees, but around 10 or 11pm!

My new motto: It’s better to be fat and tan than fat and white!

All it’s nice to be missed!

  103. Bodyfit says:

  104. SteveB says:

Burpee update. Today, Day 42 was my worst ever completing my burpees. I am blaming this fully on the Tuesday workout (Filthy Fifty) as I am sore all over!!! And tonight is another workout – getting tough to maintain this level. Perhaps Kevin’s article on overtraining is backfiring (or working) as I am using it to justify taking it easy and finding too many of the symptoms – whether they are there or not.

  105. Brent says:

Steve, just keep going man! It’s all mental now! You’re not overtranning yet! If you were running 5 miles a day on top of the burpees and your other workouts, then I’d look to overtraning. The end is (almost) in sight! I’m personally sorer than a dog today too! That Filthy Fifty about killed me after coming back vacation!

Correction: Oh ya, I overstated Lynay’s salad eating while on Vacation. She was right there with me eating most of the same garbage I ate! She did however workout heavy each morning while my lazy butt laid in bed! One evening, I did pound 1/2 a large pack of hostess mini powdered donuts ( I think it was about 12 or 14) while watching “The Biggest Looser” last week! It felt great! I had to eat them all to get that box out of our trailer!

  106. Brent says:

Already did my burpees early this morning. Did 20 as a warmup, then proceeded thorugh a workout with my brother and Dion to do heavy for arms and chest. After the heavy chest workout we did 20 burpees. My recommendation: don’t do a chest workout before your burpees!

  107. Camille says:

I guess I’ve committed to the Burpee Challenge now. You can take the question mark off my name. 42 was very hard for me yesterday, even though I did 10 after the workout to get some of them out of the way. I don’t know how you guys do 100+, but keep it up!

  108. Bodyfit says:

OK……so my workout kicked my butt….I’m a little disappointed on my performance…..so now I’m driven to do this again….but better!!!!!!! Thanks Ramses…….so i figured i did 50 burpees in my workout so i did the rest and it took me forever……I’m beat……Have a good weekend

  109. Eric Frey says:

I got a little behind this week due to having to take a random drug test at work (right when I’d be working out), other emergencies at work that I needed to help with, and just generally having a bunch of stuff go wrong.

So, I did burpees here and there, and kept track, but by today when I had made it a point to catch up, I was 152 behind. Ran 5k, broke up 152 burpees into various sets to see what was easiest. Came to the conclusion near the end that the easiest is to get really pissed off, dig deep, real deep, and just do it.

    Back on track.

  110. Karen says:

I finally got caught up on my burpees last night and this morning… well, I still have today’s but I will get those in throughout the day and during my evening workout. I’ve been having some knee issues and burpees are exactly joint-friendly. Thus the falling behind… burpees and I have been on the outs since last week. So, we had a nice long talk last night and we’re homies again.

So… yesterday was my first official day at Bodyfit. I did my evaluation with Kevin and I have to admit I was a bit embarrassed that it left me huffing and quite sore today! That’s OK though, we all have to start somewhere and I am looking forward to improving. I didn’t suck as bad as I thought I would though so… yay me!

  111. Eric Frey says:

Ugh, I missed yesterday’s burpees, and will not do today’s either. I have a bad shoulder that acts up on me every now and again and if I don’t pay attention to the little warning twinges it gives me, I end up in a sling for a week popping pain killers and sleeping pills. It happens less frequently than it used to, since I started strength training, but it still happens every now and again. I may try some 1 armed burpees tomorrow if it’s still bothersome so I don’t get 152 burpees behind again.

Anyone else with shoulder issues have some advice? This is a previously torn coracoclavicular ligament. I occasionally do shoulder dislocates to stretch that whole area, but have been forgetting those and my joint supplements lately.

  112. SteveB says:

Eric, I have had a shoulder issue develop during my burpee challenge (around day 12). Since then I have had difficulty doing normal pushups. My solution is to do some of the burpees with pushups but the first sign of pain I simply do the burpee without the full pushup. Also I will then compensate by doing some of the burpees harder – like jumping as high as physically possible instead of normal jumping or simply doing extra burpees in a modified form. While this may not be like your situation, I would suggest that you concentrate on going through some of the motions in whatever capacity so that you don’t fall out of the challenge, but make it as equal as possible in intensity to feel good about finishing this goal.

  113. Eric Frey says:

Thanks Steve. I’ll play around with the no pushup version, and try a few 1 armed like I said and see how it goes.

  114. [...] through the challenge and we’d love to hear about everyone’s progress.  Go to the Update Page and give us your feelings now that we have 50 days [...]

  115. Bodyfit says:

Hi PEOPLE……hope everyone is well!!!!!………….Eric sorry to hear about the injury……try to do what you can….but sometimes you need a break….that’s OK…..Take a couple days off…..don’t do any workouts……stretch, and take a walk……..don’t think about how many burpees you’ll need to make up…..you can spread them out over some time…….your physical and mental health should be your priority………..My burps are going OK……..Ive had to break them up in to 2 sessions……Ive been busy……..This week Ive focus on explosive movements…..keeping my form perfect…….not letting my hips fall on my push ups and exploding to my feet from the push up position….everyone should not compromise their form for speed……the whole purpose of the challenge is to get strong and preform a burpee with perfect form……..NOT SPEED………..Timing yourself is a good tool to gauge yourself…..don’t get me wrong…..but if your doing your burps bad……eventually you will pay the price………..ANY COMMENTS on my comment?

  116. SteveB says:

Day 50 update. UGGHH. I had such a great attitude this morning knowing that it was day 50 and I thought I’d time myself. Backtrack… on day one my 100 burpee time was 9:30. On day 32 my 100 burpee time was 7:30. Today, day 50 my time was 11:30. I could not push myself at all today even with the great attitude – I simply had no strength or endurance to do anything but go slow. I attribute this to last nights workout and I probably need a vacation from burpees – but we’ve got 50 days to go and it’s getting much harder to maintain. Thought I’d share what I’ve learned – there are good days and bad days. I only hope I can beat my time on day 100 or I will be disappointed for sure. And responding to Kevin about the time thing – I don’t generally do these fast – this is only the 3rd time I’ve timed myself. Most of the time I am laboring through these but I do change it up to kill the monotony – all at once or break it up, etc. Tomorrow will be tough tough tough after my defeat today.

  117. Dion says:

50… what a journey it has been, if I can be poetic for a moment. I find that burpees aren’t as difficult as when I first began…notice that I never said they were easier. I am glad that I did this challenge. It has taught me so much about endurance and commitment. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I can’t wait till 100! Bye for now, Dion
PS Hey Ramses and Karen…Miss you on Tues. and Thurs.

  118. Eric Frey says:

I’ve made some of the same observations as Steve B. Kevin, and Dion. There certainly are good and bad days. Today was a good day for me. I ultimately decided to deal with the shoulder pain by starting to catch up yesterday, spreading my missed ones out over a few days. I’ll be fully caught up on Sunday. I’m going to remember to take my joint supplements that seem to help, and make sure I do shoulder dislocates at every warmup. Those 2 things seem to help a lot, especially the shoulder dislocates.

I’ve found that as I get up in reps, and start to fatigue, I pay more and more attention to form. Slower, but good, solid reps like Kevin is saying.

Steve B. Just think of how you’ll be a few days after day 100, after your body has had that respite from burpees, and some serious time to lay down some protein and restore glycogen. I bet your 100 time will kick ass! I too try to work them in in unique ways to break up the monotony. All at once, or mixed in a workout. Today was 9 rounds for time of 10 jumping pullups, 10 dips, 10 burpees making sure I jumped high enough to slap the high pullup bar at the park nice and good. Tomorrow I’ll have 80 burpees for the killing blow after 4x400m run + 50 squats (I follow the main page about a week behind). Don’t expect to be able to walk well on Sunday.

Keep it up everyone! You all have been a good inspiration to me and have kept me from saying “Well… Maybe I don’t need to do them just this once.”

  119. Eric Frey says:

All caught up today. Tomorrow is a rest day for me, so 53 burpees with nothing else but a light warmup and Kendo in the evening. That’s gonna feel good.

Friday, at work driving the school bus I was doing my pre-trip inspection. Now, when I check the underneath of the bus, I do a burpee holding the bottom part of the pushup as long as it takes me to look over the brakes and stuff. The lady who drives the bus next to mine gets a kick out of watching it, and wanted to give it a try. So I showed her how to do a burpee, and she was quite pleased with herself. I told her “Good job, now tomorrow you have to do 2″. I was half joking, but she said, “OK”. We’ll see if she’s still mesmerized by burpees tomorrow.

  120. Bodyfit says:

Hi………Day 54…….feeling good!…..woke up at 4:30am and did my burpees……for me this is the way to go….get up and get them done……Hows everyone else feeling?

  121. Brent says:

I did mine last night at 9:30, after dinner at Red Robin! Man those steak fries with garlic are killer. Had to take a pepcid just to keep it all down. Finished and then went to bed! All caught up and ready for today, day 56!

  122. SteveB says:

Update. On vacation – first day in Philadelphia, PA and now in Binghamton, NY. Well… all day travel followed by another day of travel has left me owing 2 DAYS!!! That’s actually over 475 burpees if I do my daily amount also. This does not have my spirits high. I did do a Bodyfit workout today which only had 50 burpees in it so I am against the wall now. Travel does put a damper on things. I will attempt to reign this in but help!!!!! I will probably work hard at getting back on track only to have another all day travel on the return trip next weekend. Yes, this burpee challenge is beginning to show its true colors. Hope everyone’s doing well on the West Coast!

  123. Brent says:

Dang Stevie that’s harsh!!! You can always do them in the airport during the layovers, no? Hang tough bud! Can’t wait till you come back. Be safe! Hope your mom is doing well. Say hi to Jen and the kids for us.

  124. Brent says:

Stevie, I heard through the grapevine (Paul) that you are sick? How’s it going? Hope you are feeling better and back up even with your burpees? Keep us posted. Hadn’t seen anything from you since you were 450 behind!

  125. SteveB says:

Ahem… yes being sick also has added insult. Basically I did my number for the day for the past couple of days instead of more so I still owe roughly 315 plus in addition to any single day. I believe my cold has passed now. Today I broke up my burpees to get a better workout in (since I don’t have Bodyfit out here) – 25 burpees, then 15 pullups… repeat until all 162 burpees were done. Not sure if this is helping my overall ability to do 100 burpees straight, but it’s alot more palatable to break it up. Been enjoying this trip and have liked seeing what workouts you have all been up to. Keep it up – hope I haven’t put on too many pounds after all this great Italian food – homemade gnocchi tomorrow night.

  126. Brent says:

Can I say how sick I am of doing burpees? No, ok. Well, I Ran the 10k Mud Run on Saturday and then did my 129 burpees to catch me up. It was a very taxing day to say the least! Was trying to negotiate my burpees away with Kevin since I was running the 6 miles and doing all the mud obstacles. Not sure why he wouldn’t go for it? I should have done some of my burpees in the mud and taken video/photos, but in the heat of the moment and finishing we forgot. Sorry.

  127. Lynay says:

I officially hate burpees!!!!! Can’t wait until day 101 when I wake up in the morning and can say, “hey, no burpees today!!!” I must say, however, that it has done something for me in being consistent. I’m too afraid to skip a day, since I can’t imagine doing over 100 in a day! Looking forward to day 100!!

  128. Bodyfit says:

Hows everyone doing?…….Everyone look up at the list of people who committed to this challenge and see who’s still with us…….If you’ve fallen behind and don’t feel you can get back on track….get with me and I can help you get back in the game and keep you in…..don’t let all those burpees you’ve done be for nothing……..YOU CAN DO THIS!…….This is a team challenge and we are in this together…..If you can call some of the people with ? by there names….call and encourage them to get back in…….Nows the time when we need to help each other out….LETS FINISH THIS TOGETHER!!!!!! if you need help call me 951-378-3563 Kevin

  129. Eric Frey says:

I’m wayyyyy behind. I’ve been debating if I should drop out or not, and at this point, it’s either do or die I think. My shoulder pain never really eased up. Even after taking a lot of days with no burpees, and lower intensity workouts all around, it still feels a little funny.

I’ve had a bad habit in the past with pushing myself and screwing up my body when it was best to cool it a bit, and I guess I’ve gotten gun shy over things. Top that off with decreased performance in other workouts and sparring due to persist fatigue, and people at work commenting on how I looked like crap, I toned things way down for a week or so and considered dropping out.

So, every day I go through this cycle where I tell myself I need to condition myself better before trying a 100 day challenge again, then I tell myself I’m a wuss, and I should just do it because I know I can, then I tell myself that that’s how I’ve really screwed things up in the past, then I say I’ll work out a schedule to catch up safely… Wash, rinse, repeat…

I tried burpees without the pushups like Steve B. suggested, but that didn’t help with the decresed performance that was also frustrating me.

The magic number? How far behind am I? 882. That’s ugly. I don’t want to get beaten by this thing, but I’m continually fighting with myself weather I’m being a wuss, being a wuss and trying to justify it, or intelligently paying attention to my body.

Maybe if I split up lots of small sets throughout the day and get back on track over a week or so. then that would work, kind of like Grease the Groove with burpees. Any thoughts on that? I haven’t really considered it, because it almost seemed like cheating to me, but at this point, breaking it down might be better than quitting.

Any thoughts the performance decrease would be helpful as well.

You guys have been good motivation for me, and it’s appreciated.

  130. Bodyfit says:

Eric, I was in the same boat as you the last couple of weeks…….my workouts suffered, I felt slow weak all of it……..so I took 3 days off from my workouts……and more importantly I dialed in my nutrition……This really helped me …….Even if you think your nutrition is good take a good hard look at it IT WILL HELP……..as far as the injury, the only thing you can do is do what best for you……if your hurt don’t make it worse……..If its mild look at what your doing….most likely its how your moving…….modify your burpees…..do air squats and push ups….take a real hard look at your food and how your moving your shoulder……have you read the Zone diet ? Its really helped my performance…….i hope this helped…..Your health is the most important here so do whats best for you……let me know if you need anything else……..Kevin

  131. Eric Frey says:

You know, I hadn’t given much thought to nutrition, but I should get that taken care of. Last semester I was a rock star in the nutrition class I took, but I’ve kind of fallen off the wagon lately. Time to get back in control of that. I haven’t looked into the Zone, but since a lot of crossfitters swear by it, I may take a look at it. I tend to scoff heavily at any diet du jour. Zone seems worth investigating, though. I don’t like the idea of 40% carbs though (am I correct there?). I’ve done best at about 60% with fat at like 25% and protein around 15%, give or take a bit on each.

I spent some time today really considering my goals through November, and I feel I can get back on track with some changes to my overall program design. It’s a bitter pill to swallow realizing that I can’t do burpees, a CF workout, possibly also running, plus boxing, kendo, and karate classes all in the same day.

I’ve made a plan for catching up using well planned sets, and possibly subbing no pushups as necessary and should be back on track November 1. Gotta be ready to kill the Thanksgiving day 5k race, so it’s a good time to tweak my routine anyway.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

  132. Bodyfit says:

Eric, The extra carbs wont necessarily give you more energy..increase your fat intake for that… 1st increase your protein and you will see better results in your recovery……Theirs so much debate on this subject….my experience is that the Zone works……when I’m not eating properly my energy and recovery decrease fast……Most people when asked “How’s your nutrition ? ” They respond pretty good….but if they kept a journal on everything they put in their mouth…EVERYTHING…..I would find the reasons they aren’t losing fat or energy is poor or not recovering……Take a hard look at your food intake……don’t fall into the trap of saying ” I’m not comfortable with less carbs and more protein” Ask yourself “is what I’m doing now working ?….Do I have the energy to maintain my fitness level….Am I recovering ?” With a proper diet you should be able to…..I’m not claiming to know it all……Just keep searching for what works for you…….I hope this helps

  133. SteveB says:

Eric. Hoping to help you out here. I was behind over 500 after my vacation and it was mentally destroying my desire – and thoughts of quitting came into play. Sunday however I was able to do my normal burpees for the day and then I kept doing several sets throughout the day while I did cleanup around the house – sets of 10 or 25 and slowly but surely I had done 540 and was completely caught up. The point I’m trying to make is this… hopefully do your daily burpee amount only if you can (even if you’re behind). Perhaps you’ll get to a day that you find you can keep adding sets like I did and get control again. It is definitely easy to crank out a set of 10 and then rest for a minute or more doing something else, then just crank out another 10 and so on.

  135. Eric Frey says:

Thanks Steve, that’s essentially what I’ve decided to do, and have been doing yesterday and today. So far, so good. Going really slow with it, focusing on form, not trying to go to fast and develop fatigue.

Kevin, I appreciate the feedback. Truth is, he past couple months I’ve slowly fallen back into the habit that most people have of eating unconsciously. Not portioning my servings, skipping breakfast, eating whatever I feel. Last week was pretty bad for that, so I’m dusting off the measuring cups again today (my wife is going to love this, lol) and will likely have to start shopping and preparing meals for myself again (again, my wife will love that).

  136. Brent says:

We’ll it’s almost down n out for me. I was not able to do my burpees for 4 days now due to family obligations and catching a bad cold. I’m working to get back on track over today/tomorrow. Only 320 left to get even!

  137. SteveB says:

Update – not good. While I am still able to maintain the challenge, I have found that my burpees are getting worse in terms of timeframe. Where I used to do a minimum of 100 straight and then possibly pickup the remainder later, I am now staggering them all throughout the day due to time. I’ve noticed that my ability to do 100 straight has been greatly impacted with this approach. Not sure if I can change my behavior with time constraints, but wanted to jot this info down for the record.

  138. Eric Frey says:

Wanted to update along with everyone else. I had been leaving out some of the pushups, but I am back to all with pushups today. I’m so far behind still, and am doing burpees all day long. Like Steve said earlier, 10 or 25 throughout the day are no big deal. Not getting to the point where lactic acid builds up seems to make it easy to do burpees all day long. Tomorrow, and possibly Sunday I’ll be able to set a timer on my watch and pretty much do burpees at regular intervals all day long. If I can get caught up by Sunday, then I’ll be very happy. I thought I’d be caught up already, but I’ve been pretty spent after regular workouts and kendo, and bla bla bla. So this weekend, no workouts, no biking to work and back 2x a day. It’s a burpee marathon, and it’s on!

    Keep going everybody…

  139. Brent says:

Alright, let’s just say I’m motivated now. I had the opportunity to have the magic wand waved by Kevin and my 450 burpees would just magically disappear for taking a burpee video in front of the Camp Pendelton Crossfit bunker! We’ll we did the video after the Buffalo Alley 10k and my wife and Steve would not let me live down magically erasing my burpees. So as of this morning I have 440 to go! Just so you all know I did about 180 since yesterday morning, so that’s how far I was behind. I feel like I’ll be doing burpees for the rest of my life or like I have burpees coming out of my wazoo! I think it’s both!

  140. SteveB says:

Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we would have to push Brent the machine! But here it is… Go Brent Go!!! Go Brent Go!!! You can do it!!!! Only 19 Days left!!!

  141. Brent says:

Update: Last night between 7pm & 9pm I did almost 300 burpees! I’m almost at a count that is not so duanting! Counting today’s 83, I’m now hovering around 260. I think I will try and knock the rest out tonight! That will put me over 600 in 2 days! I’ve questioned my self on this challenge a number of times as my head has not been in it at all, ever! Lynay knows this! But, for some reason, probably my competative nature, I’ve stayed in the game! I’m not sure why I’ve felt this way, I just have? I’ll be happy when it’s over!

  142. Eric Frey says:

Well, I may as well come out and say it. I have to tap out. I have not been able to catch up. I had some good days doing 200-300, and then I had some days that I only did the minimum. All last week I was down with 3 old injuries acting up. The shoulder, a knee, and a hip. I even took a day off work (and all I do is drive) to stretch, and take ibuprofen. I haven’t counted how many I’m behind at this point, but it’s a lot. Well into the thousands, and this damn shoulder is still giving me problems.

I’m really bummed that I can’t finish this, but I have learned quite a bit about my limitations. Now I need to get to work overcoming them without aggravating these old joint issues. Thanks for the support along the way guys. To those still in, rock on!

  143. SteveB says:

Eric – glad you joined us on the challenge. Best of luck to you in the future – sounds like you’re definitely involved in fitness in one form or another – keep it up! Sorry to see you go – stop by BodyFit next time you’re in Southern CA. As for my burpee update… I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!! Day 89 and I am caught up and ready to finish this thing so that I can move onto something else. C’mon everyone, final push to the end!

  144. Eric Frey says:

Thanks for the kind words Steve. And, of course the invitation is there for anyone who finds themselves in Tucson to join me for a workout or some sparring if they are so inclined. It’s been great interacting with all of the Bodyfit crew. You guys are awesome!

  146. Bodyfit says:

OK everyone we are almost there!!!!!!!!! Eric no shame in your decision…..like I said before you have to take care of your body! Please keep in touch!!!!!!……..As for everyone else..stay the course your almost DONE!

  147. Brent says:

Ok, noticed everyone quit writing here about the burpee challenge and their experiences? What’s up with that y’all? So we’re down to 4 days left. I personally can’t wait to be done with burpees to start the 100 day pushup or situp callenge! Kevin… Anyway, I’m all caught up and have been able to say even pretty much, day to day. I did 75 last night at 10pm, then finished the other 21 this morning. Now I just have to rattle off todays 97 and I’m good to go! To all those still in the game… Hang tough… the end is near! Only 394 left to go! Can’t wait till Saturday, well actually Sunday for “NO MORE BURPEES”. I think at the end of the challenge, all who completed should post up their thoughts and reflections to memorialize the event.

  148. SteveB says:

I agree that the enthusiasm has switched to getting past Saturday. These burpees have taken over my mornings and evenings, when I can eat and not eat, what to eat… will sushi for lunch be ok for burpees in the afternoon, or will my stomach take a pass and make me slip a day to owe even more burpees. I cannot wait until this is over to finally stop doing burpees and ending all workouts of any kind. I plan on gaining 20 lbs back in a couple of months and going back to a body of gelatinous goo. I may visit the group from time to time to be a counter or hand out water to those in need. I’ll need a before picture of myself on Saturday to document my achievement before I slip into bliss. It’s been real. And yes – this is a cry for HELP!!! I have burpees on the brain!!!

  149. Bodyfit says:

In a sick way I think I will miss Burpees……The steady stream of sweat they induce….The moments of burning in my lungs…….The agony of waking up knowing your behind 3 days…..The one thing I will miss most is how its brought everyone together for these 100 days……..Sat will be are final day of burpees! What I hope to see from everyone is how you’ve progressed your burpees…..I don’t care how fast you do them! I care on how well you can do them and maintain that good form! Its been fun! Id like to hear your thoughts on this experience…..And what you think about my comment…………………………………….

  150. Lynay says:

Miss doing burpees every morning??? I don’t think so!! I hope that I can now fill my “off” mornings with a workout or run instead of burpees! This burpee challenge has definitely proven to me that I can be very consistent in something. I haven’t skipped a day the entire challenge–mostly out of fear for getting behind and not being able to catch up! I have, however, been fortunate to stay healthy the whole time, so I didn’t have that to mess with me. I will look forward to day 101 when I wake up (at the river) and know that I won’t have any burpees to do. I can go for a run and not worry that my legs will be too tired for burpees! I’m looking forward to going to workouts a little fresher and more ready to meet whatever Kevin throws at us head-on! It will be interesting to see what we can do with our workouts without having the burpees over our heads. What will be next???!!

Oh, and Steve…we hear your cry for help…it sounds a little tempting! Just kidding!

  151. Eric Frey says:

I’m not going to be finishing with you all, but I want to take a moment to cheer the rest of you on!

Kevin, your graciousness in letting me join you all was awesome. This burpee challenge highlighted a weakness of mine. My inability to finish has motivated me to really look into my shoulder problem and put together a solid program of strength and flexibility for my shoulder that will ultimately help me immensely. I went through a similar thing with my knee when I started running, and now I have no problems. Who knows how long I’d be just taking a week or 2 off from upper body stuff when needed if I hadn’t seen just how my fitness goals are effected by this weakness.

So far, I am seeing positive results in strength and flexibility of my shoulder. I’m very optimistic that I will be able to handle a burpee challenge next time I decide to do one. This was much more hard core than I had anticipated. Your workouts are very inspiring.

Steve B., Your support, input, and motivation were very helpful at the toughest parts of the challenge for me. You da man!

Ramses, It’s always great to meet another who’s into the way of the sword. I have a test coming up that will involve a lot of haya-suburi. Haya-suburi is another exercise that my shoulder occasionally dislikes. But again, I’m getting better as a result of having a weakness highlighted, and I’m going to do well. If I ever have the pleasure of working out with you, we’ll have to make some time for keiko or something.

Karen, from one webmaster to one webmistress, you got skills, girl! Good on ya for putting this site together for Kevin, and rock on with your fitness goals. You are an inspiration, too!

To the rest of the Bodyfit crew, you’re almost there! Keep it up!

I only have a 5k run and my shoulder circuit planned for Saturday, but I’m sure I’ll be inclined to throw a few burpees in there for you guys!

  152. Lynay says:

    Tomorrow we’re done!!!! yeah!!!!!
